Careful of the Heat
If all the spices this recipe calls for were to be used, I believe it would be almost inedible. So that all family members could enjoy the meal, I cut the chili powder in half and used only a pinch of the pepper flakes. Even at that, it had adequate flavor without being overwhelming.

Simple but full of flavor
I've been trying recipes for two years trying to find one everyone in the family would like. This one is it. The 6 and 10 year olds in my house loved and so did my husband. Simple but full of flavor.

Ok, expected more from America's Test Kitchen
I love America's Test Kitchen, but this is just a so-so recipe from them. First off, tomato puree is not tomato paste. Yes, most of us know that but there is sometimes confusion on this. For this recipe we wound up adding far more vegetables to get a nice, chunky chili after it cooked down. It was a tad spicy for some of our guests, and it did need the extras suggested. Next time, I'd cook the meat and veggies less and add the extras.

4th Quarter Chili was a big hit!
I've never made chili before yesterday when I made this recipe. Thanks for making my chili debut a success. The recipe was straightforward and easy to follow, and resulted in a tasty and aromatic chili that disappeared quickly. I served it as suggested with sliced jalapenos, cilantro, shredded cheddar, sour cream and green onions. I'll be making this a few more times this year, I'm sure.
