The idea is great, but it just doesn't work as specified. After several attempts it simply mutilated every item I tried to use it on. Heavy duty yes, last forever, yes. A truly waste of my good money.

This product makes apple pie-making a breeze. No more peeling and cutting up apples by hand. It also works great for peeling and slicing potatoes - perfect for scalloped potatoes. On draw back is that is difficult to clean, but I have found that running it under hot water works the best, using a scrubby for stuck-on apple.

took a while

Took me a while to figure out how to use it and to get it adjusted, but I got it working and peeled my apples with it. Heavy and well built.

This corer/peeler works perfectly and we love it. My daughter eats many more apples because of it. Great buy!

I just received this product and only used it one time to peel, core and slice 2 apples. It was so quick and easy after I got my husband to put it together for me. I wish that I had this device before I prepared 5 pounds of apples by hand for a deep dish apple pie recipe for Christmas. I like that this product can peel without slicing because some apple pie recipes require that the apples be cut into sections instead of slices.

This worked great and was very fun to use. The suction hold worked fine on our formica counters. There were a few adjustments needed on unpacking, but they were quite trival and straightfoward.

We noticed that for very large diameter apples, it had trouble doing the coring/slicing because then the apple is a bit larger than the slicing 'blade' that does that application, but otherwise, it worked fine.

Clean up by a bit of rinsing under the faucet seemed sufficient. It is best to put a light coat of oil on the long screw part. We noticed it starting to look a bit rusty-ish in the grooves after several days of playing with it and leaving it wet.

The suction doesn't work no matter how many times we tried. The corer breaks the apple apart. I was very disapointed in the product. I ended up peeling by hand.

Takes the Cake or Apples I should say

My son (who's 15) is the baker in the family, every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas he makes several pies but some of them are Apple - and every year he sits there and peels and cuts them from the core. One day as I was shopping on this site, I saw the Apple Corer and Peeler, and thought WOW this would make his life easier - I also was thinking for the price even if it got him through this season of holidays. Well to my surprise as well as his, he was amazed on how quickly he peeled, cored and sliced these apples. This product is not only well made it works well! Well worth every penny spent. On another note he loved the product so much he said he'd make one every week since its so easy to do now. GREAT PRODUCT you will not be dissatisfied.

cast iron apple corer and peeler

This product requires a little adjustment at first, after that you have so much fun with it. You can just peel potatoes or peel and core apples. I made a beautiful garnish by peeling and coring an English cucumber to wrap arount an appetizer plate.

Since we do not spray our apple trees, it requires plenty of peeling to make applesauce and other receipes. However it is actually fun to use this corer, which is also quick tro rinse clean without disassembly. We have never used so many apples!

This product really works and saves a lot of time when peeling apples. My 4 year old loves cranking the handle to help me once I mount the apple for peeling. My one disappointment is that the Peeler doesn't handle large apples very well--it's just not build big enough. It works just fine for a standard apple, and the smaller ones you find in the bags for pies, etc., but extra large won't do.

Cast Iron Apple Corer/Peeler--Tool or Toy?

by Linda, MD
November 18, 2009

I titled this review Tool or Toy because it is so much fun to use. As long as the apple is firm and evenly shaped, it does an excellent job. If not, you have to do some adjusting but it still beats hand peeling. I love being able to just peel or just core and slice as well as being able to do all three. The only thing I would change about it would be to be able to separate the core and slice blades as well.

Deep dish apple pie

by Patricia, MD
December 15, 2009

It took me a little while to figure how to use the peeler but I had a deep dish apple pie that required a lot of apples and the peeler-slicer saved a lot of time. The apples were uniform and the pie turned out perfectly.

Great with very good apples

by Thomas, NJ
December 15, 2009

When the apple is shaped well and is fresh this product works amazingly well. It is a marvel to watch operate. It can extrude almost the entire skin of the apple in a single long stream and at the same time remove the core. Then for us, I remove the apple and do two quick slice from the top to the bottom of the apple on opposite sides then you get excellent apple slices for snacking.

I haven't used my apple peeler as of yet but my son said it was tops and he will be peeling my apples to make applepies for Christmas this year.
I think it's a good product. I would recommend it to anyone.
