I felt the slicer is a good design for strenth and ease of cleaning. However, I would recommendd a blade that is slanted rather than straight across. A slanted blade cuts with more ease as the food product slices through, whereas the straight blade the food comes into contact with the blade all at once needing more pressure to slice.

Could have been a little better!

Not what I was hoping for my old one was out the box and easy to use but this took some getting use to. Thank goodness I live where daily I can easily go get fresh off the farm fruit and veggies. Your best bet is to use firm produce or you'll have to work a little at it. The plus side is the VERY sharp ceramic blades... be careful. I like the Oxo brands but this one I have had to warm up to. It's a decent mandoline for the price and does work as stated just not to the level I expected...I may just give this one away and get a high-end brand.

I just got this but have used it for scalloped potatoes, cole slaw, and sliced onions for soup. Very uniform and adjustable for the different depth cuts. Easy to clean.

Mandoline Slicer cutting blade too dull

by Pat, CA
September 2, 2008

As OXO has so many good products, I ordered the madoline slicer online without looking for reviews. Unfortunately, it does not live up to expectations. The cutting blade is too dull to work with other than hard items such as potatoes. The holding tines on the handset do not penetrate food so the slicing is uneven and difficult. I am not satisfied.

The slicer is very well made but not very well engineered. Since the blade is straight across it tends to smash whatever you are slicing. My old V slicer worked a lot better for half the price. It seems to me that if they had put the blade on an angle the smashing problem would be eliminated.

Its well made, effective, and easy to use

I was impressed with the quality of this item when I received it. But then OXO always seems to deliver that. I used it for french fries, julienne cuts, and other slicing tasks and it performed flawlessly. The feet of the unit have nice rubber pads to prevent slippage. Once finished, it cleaned up very easily. I'd buy another one of these in the future if needed.

Not great

by Vicky, TX
August 2, 2009

Doesn't slice as well as I'd like. I use it to cut cucumbers for pickles and to make julienne fries with potatoes or sweet potatoes. The ripple cutter is too small to make waffle fries. The disk to hold and push the food through ends up gouging the food and doesn't hold it well at all. I end up using my hand and will probably cut myself one day.

Total disappointment. I read every one of the reviews for this product and all the other mandolines and had very high expectations. While not high end, Oxo products normally work well. I would return this product if I hadn't thrown away the box. For half what I paid it would be overpriced!

I got this mandoline for my mom for mothers day and it was so bad that I am returning it. If you want to have julienne cut carrots you might as well just get out the knife and do it yourself!

Mandoline Slicer

by Deborah, WA
October 28, 2007

Made scalloped potatoes the other day and this was sure better than slicing the potatoes with a knife! Saved me a lot of time and the slices were perfectly uniform. French fries are next.

This mandoline works fine but is not very sturdy. I have to hold it down with one hand while using with the other. It cuts fine but is too wobbly.

The Mandoline Slicer was a gift

by Janet, CO
December 27, 2006

I gave the item to my son, who has been in the chefing industry for 20 years. I asked him how he liked the mandoline slicer and he was very pleased. He told me it was the best one he has worked with and he has worked with many at different jobs over the years.

OXO Mandoline

by Judith, NY
February 9, 2007

This is a marvelous product. For the price it's a terrific buy. It's well made, very sturdy and good looking enough to have a permanent spot on my countertop. I use it almost daily.

The ease of cleaning was an unexpected plus. I'll look to OXO for other products now.

I have wanted a mandoline for a very long time but didn't want to spend the excessive amount for the stainless steel professional ones. I finally took a chance on the OXO and couldn't be MORE HAPPY! High quality and good value. It works like a charm and I'm using it more than I thought!

solid product for the price

by Heikki, NJ

although not the highest end slicer, it gets the job done very well. It has a nice setup and is easy to clean. One you get used to switching between cutters (takes about five minutes to become accustomed to) you'll be good to go.
