Griddler Compact by Cuisinart
DeLonghi combines the cooking trends of today with retro design in this gleaming Italian sandwich maker. Softly rounded edges are handsomely paired with easy-to-clean, nonstick stationary cooking plates that provide two-sided grilling of favorite Panini combinations. The wattage is high to speed cooking time; an adjustable thermostat lets you customize the level - a lower temperature so cheese thoroughly melts or higher for a quick crisp of the bread. The hinged door adjusts in height to accommodate thin slices of sourdough or thick squares of focaccia. And for the health-conscious, little or no oils are absorbed thanks to the cooking plates that slant forward for oil or butter to drain into built-in channels. Other features include power-on and ready lights and a wrap-around cord. When not in use, the unit fastens shut and stands upright for convenient storage - though as delicious as these sandwiches are, this panini maker may very well end up a permanent fixture on your kitchen countertop.

This grill is the right size for "more than two" and is very attractive and stores neatly and compactly. It heats up in a very short time and cooks vert evenly. Easily cleaned ... don't think removable plates would provide any advantage! Love it!!

attractive, easy to operate, easy to clean. Useful for much more than panini. Terrific for grilling vegetables.

The four Panini grills were gifts to our children for Christmas. Without exception all have reported back to us that they use them quite often and are very pleased with them. All our children are very particular about thier appliances and would tell us if they were not happy with
these grills. The shipments arrived ahead of schedule and all were in great shape. This is the thrid time that we have ordered from Cooking.com for gifts to our children. Thanks a bunch, Hershel & Audrey Miller .

We are having so much fun with it. Our boys, ages 23 and 25 are making all kinds of sandwiches and use it constantly. They love sandwiches and to be able to pop them in the grill to warm them thru is great for them. I was supposed to make room for it in one of the cabinets, but we use it so much, it has remained a counter top appliance since we got it. Absolutely wonderful.

We keep the Grill right on the counter next to the toaster oven and use it at least as much. It makes great panini and it also grills vegetables and meat to perfection. We love it.

Makes great panini, which is the only thing we use it for. The top does get very hot with use but that's not really a problem for us - just something to be aware of. Very easy to clean.

Average At Most

First, it does not allow you to adjust for different size panini. Second, it doesl not leave distinct marks on the outsize of the panini. But, it does melt the ingredients and result in an edible panini. At the price though one might not expect too much more from the product as compared to other such grills.

One of the best out there

by Patrick, CA
February 6, 2008

This Panini Grill is one of the best out there...the only thing is there isn't an on/off switch so you have to unplug the unit to turn it off...that's the only thing because other than that its easy to use and works magic!!!

The Grill is excellent, did very well at my party , the only thing I didn't like is there is no On / Off switch otherwise a great product, easy to use and clean, Had twenty folks making sandwiches, each took about 2 to 3 minutes was fun and everyone had a nice toasty and hot sandwich on the spot. .

Good and bad, compared to Krups panini grill

by Kristen, MA
March 12, 2007

Having used my Krups panini grill for years until it stopped working, my opinions on this grill are influenced by the comparison. This grill doesn't get as hot as the Krups (bad), so in my opinion the variable heat knob is irrelevant as it is cranked up to high at all times, but on the other hand, it has a drip spout (which is good). Also, the grill ridges are larger and farther apart than the Krups (good and bad) -- good because it is MUCH easier to clean, bad because those nice tight ridges made for a nicer, crispier sandwich exterior. The smaller ridges were also better for grilling chicken, etc. But, again, it's a trade off: the ease of cleaning pretty much makes up for the negatives. Overall, I'm happy with it, but not wowed.

Entry level panini

by Ron, WA
January 29, 2008

as a newcomer to grilled sandwiches, I am very pleased with my Retro Panini Grille. This is an excellent product, especially considering the price and performance of the unit.

Higher priced Panini Grilles may have more features, such as removable grills, but for the price and experience, I am more than satisfied.

A Fun Grill

by Mary, AL
October 20, 2010

Excellent value for the money. Cooks great, looks good, stores well in an upright position. Would definitely recommend to others. I had some problem cleaning after grilling chicken breast. The chicken was great but the marinate burned and stuck to the grill. 'Probably needed to spray with oil before grilling. It made an awesome chicken pesto sandwich.

Good Performance

by Patricia, NC
January 15, 2007

It does more than I expected when purchased. It does great grilled sandwiches, and also does many other items, such as chicken breasts, hamburgers, even steak and fish. I like that it doesn't cook so hot as to burn everything outside before it is finished cooking inside. And it makes really quick work of cooking, even chicken, since it is heating from both sides. While it is not difficult to clean (MUCH better than the old Forman grill I had), it would have been even better with removable plates. And you must remember to unplug it to turn it off, but only a minor inconvenience. It also could have better, more complete instructions/guidelines that had actually starrted out in English and not translated. Fortunately the operation is simple to figure out. I like the self-adjusting top that

Non-multitasking Appliance

by Charles, NJ
December 11, 2007

This unit prepares panini OK, but that is all it does! The plates do not come off for cleaning if you want to prepare anything else. There are no other plate profiles you can use.
I think the best thing I can do with it is to sell it on eBay! I certainly will not be using it again.

Great Sandwich Maker

by Andrew, GA
December 19, 2006

This product does a very good job. It makes great sandwiches - toasty on the outside & soft on the inside. The only con I have is that the latch that is supposed to lock the unit for storage does not work well at all. The latch will not hold and the unit will fly open if you pick it up by the handle. This has not been a problem since I read about this in a product review before I bought the product.

I took my new machine with me on an extended vacation, and my entire family loved using it when they visited. They enjoyed the simplicity of meals it made possible...somehow, a panini makes a much more satisfying meal than just a plain sandwich. Try garlic mayo, mustard (lightly), provolone cheese, prosciutto, and a dill pickle on thick slices of Italian (or similar) bread. Yummy! Just look in the fridge and see what combinations you can come up with. Clean-up looks hard, but isn't; just use lots of paper towel.

I really love the way it grills my food, and I particularly love the speed in which it grills! I don't have to turn on my oven to broil a couple of pieces of chicken, especially, if I've had a long day. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that you have to unplug it to turn it off. Other than that, I would recommend this product, especially, to someone just learning how to cook!
