  • Best Book

I still have my great grandmother's Ball Canning Book. I try to buy them every several years to make sure I "keep up to date" on everything. One suggestion - I do ALL my canning in a pressure canner. I wish you'd put pressure canner times as well as water-bath canning times for those of us who are lazy and prefer to be told. This, however, is the Only Book to Have. All others are second best!

  • Ball Canning Guide

Great resource book for home canning! Have had book for 25 years and got updated version this year. Must have if you plan to home preserve. Some great recipes too, trying bread and butter pickles for first time this year although have not tasted yet as they have to "cure" but certain they will be delicious!

The only thing that disappointed me was that the book was "forced" into the box and the corners were bent and crumpled. It still is the same book, the info is great, but I hope to give my items that "used and abused" look on my own terms.

  • The Blue Book Guide to Preserving

I like this book so much that I bought 4 of them. One for my daughter, one for my daughter-in-law, one for my niece and one for myself. I had one from the 1990's, and it got old and worn and thought I would up date with a new one.

  • Delicious ideas

I really needed to get this book. As a little girl I helped my mother and grandmother "can" but I have never attempted to go it alone. I started with strawberry jam. I am looking forward to doing blueberries and eventually tomatoes as the growing season progresses. The recipes are clear and concise, easy to follow and lots of helpful hints. It brings back many happy memories.

I have used this book since I started canning in my early teens. I have kept all my copies because there are recipes I have collected over 40 years and I am always trying new things for my family. We have a large garden and I just can't stand the idea of throwing all that fresh produce and fruit away.

  • Great Guide to Preserving

I have my mom's Blue Book Guild to Canning from the 1940s. The same quality info is in the new book as in the older one with the exception of some more updated recipes and methods. Recently I bought the new Jelly and Jam Maker. I would like to have seen some recipes in this book for use with my new "toy." When the Jelly and Jam Maker arrived it has some recipes, and I understand that this is a new and state of the art product. When the next edition of the Blue Book Guide to Preserving comes out, I'll be the first in line to get it.

  • Excellent Teaching Guide and Resource

The Blue Book is an excellent guide for the first-time and regular canner. The instructional information is clear, well-written, and precise without being so technical as to be off-putting, either for water bath or pressure canning. There are many recipes included that are surprisingly interesting and that cover many different types of diets. The only down side is that there is not more information about changing recipes or creating original ones. Overall, this is a bible of a book, one that will be used for generations. Thank you, Ball!

    I recommend this product.
