I checked this out from the library and renewed it maximum number of times prior to purchase, then decided I could not pretend to bake without it. This book has fabulous recipes and provides the understanding of how it all works, plus a way to bring the knowledge to any recipe. I particularly like the section on how to create larger quantities of frosting, filling, and cakes since I sometimes make cakes for large family gatherings or other celebrations -- but not often enough to be expert at large sizes without a few nudges.

This helps when you want to go it alone or make your own recipes. It is like having a baking book, encyclopedia of baking and dictionary all at once. If you buy no other cake books or just want one--make this one it!
