We know from experience that deep-frying at home can be a tricky thing: if the oil is too hot you risk burning the outside before the inside is cooked all the way through, too cold and your breading will be soggy and greasier than the vat of oil you just fried it in. Take the guesswork out of recreating your favorite deep fried treats with this Taylor Candy, Canning and Deep Fry Thermometer. This particular model features a neutral white background and clear markings denoting temperatures from 100 to 400 degrees F. At 12.5 inches long, the thermometer can be used even with deeper pots and fryers, and the attached metal clip will keep your thermometer securely attached to pots with sides measuring up to an inch thick. The display also caters to cooks that specialize in candy making and sugar work with markings that indicate the perfect stopping point for thread, soft ball, hard ball, soft crack and hard crack stages. This ability to do double duty in the kitchen means you only need one thermometer for both cooking and baking, meaning one less item in your crowded kitchen drawer. With a compact gadget this reliable, you'll be creating baskets full of goodies for your next bake sale or holiday party in record time.

Best Used For:

The experts at Taylor have created the perfect, reliable thermometer with which to gauge the ideal temperature for frying, tempering chocolate, making candy, spinning sugar, canning, pickling and home brewing beer.

  • The mercury buld sits above the bottom of the pan, this lets the thermometer give one kthe REAL temp as opposed to reading the bottom of the pan.
Then Temp guage is clear with markings that show the stage of cooking . Ie: soft, hard stage of sugar. A way of warning before the temp causes disaster. Very NICE!

Good cost for a good product!

  • The black lettering printed on the thermometer indicating the temperature all wore off after only two uses. We can no longer use it.

  • The moment the thermometer was placed in the hot oil it burst open and all the mercury came out into my pot!

Great thermometer. Like that it is encased in metal so thermometer doesn't set directly on bottom of pan. Easy to handle and store.

The clip is the best part for the thermometer. It works great for all sizes of pans, we use it for frying things in a dutch oven. works well.

  • Good product but made in china

This did not create any American jobs, but it is made well. I would have given it a 5 rating if it was made in the US.

  • Taylor Cooking Thermometer

This was a replacement for the same type thermometer that was over 15 years old. The letters and numbers on the old one had faded and it was difficult to read. It had been an EXCELLENT thermometer.

  • Just what I needed!

Most of my pots are very shallow, so I was glad to finally find something with a "spacer" where the bulb didn't sit directly on the bottom of the pan.

  • Use of Deep Fry Thermometer in frying pan

If the pan you are heating oil or shortening in is shallow, the thermometer is difficult to use as it won't clip on the side of the pan in a way that the bulb of the thermometer is in the oil. When frying chicken or other things, not deep frying them, you don't use a lot of oil or shortening, but you still want to know when it reaches the proper temperature. With this thermometer, that is difficult. Other than that, I like this thermometer very much. It is a good value for the money, and I will certainly recommend it.

    I recommend this product.

  • I have been searching for this product for a long time, having seen many cooking shows useing one. It is great, I also purchased one for my mom. I like the fact that it has an adjustable slide clip when you clip it on a pan it stays and wanting to fall in, easy to read. I would recommend this product to everyone, they will not be disappointed.
