Merchandise Planner

Scope of Job

Responsible for demand analysis and preparation of inventory forecasts and replenishments leveraging JE system, and utilizing other Excel based planning tools. Daily analysis of large amounts of data, including sales history, inventory, on order and lead time to minimize out of stocks. Follow-thru on purchase orders from placement to receipt.

Development, Analysis and Maintenance

  • Analyze baseline and seasonal item level performance to accurately forecast warehoused product sales velocity, resulting in appropriate replenishment of units to minimize out of stock levels and maintain strong inventory turns. Develop and execute replenishment purchase orders.
  • Create, distribute and manage weekly reports and cross functional meetings – OTB, spend recap, Inventory Longs.


  • Partner with Merchandising to determine and manage exit strategies and maximize opportunity buys. Monthly review of inventory at risk. Recommend items for clearance and discontinuation.
  • Liaise with Finance/Accounting on invoice discrepancies and credit needs.
  • Expedite and track purchases to maximize and support sales forecast and marketing programs.
  • Liaise with third-party DC to prioritize receipts and resolve discrepancies.

Business Knowledge, Skills, and Desired Attributes

  • Knowledge and experience working with a replenishment system. Just Enough, highly desired, but not required.
  • Intermediate to Advanced level of Excel and Outlook, required
  • Knowledge of basic and retail math, required
  • Utilize and maintain planning tools to accurately forecast items and execute purchases, minimizing out of stocks and overstocks. Strong and consistent Follow thru.
  • Excellent analytical and statistical skills, required
  • Must be comfortable working with large amounts of data
  • Excellent organizational, prioritizing and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well and communicate within a team environment
  • Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written

Hiring Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience in demand planning and/or buying

  • Advanced level proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel
