Front-End Web Design Contractor

Cooking.com currently has an opportunity for a Front End Web Designer in the Design department! The Front-End Web Designer’s duty will be to work with our site build team to develop front-end html, css and JavaScript based on provided wireframes and PhotoShop mockups, for a food and cooking website. The project requires experience in responsive coding and familiarity with the JQuery Mobile, HTML5-based user interface system. A portfolio demonstrating prior design examples is required.

Essential Functions:

  • Working with a team in an Agile build workflow to generate front-end code for the project.
  • Interpreting graphic visual or interaction designs in HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
  • Testing cross-browser, cross-platform, and/or cross-device compatibility for inconsistencies.
  • Reviewing front-end mockups with the internal team to demonstrate design execution.
  • Presenting key pages to client for approval.

Business Knowledge, Required Skills:

  • Must have extensive knowledge of HTML to the level of being able to hand-code markup.
  • Familiarity of HTML syntax for multiple specifications, including HTML 5.
  • Must know best practices in CSS file structure; syntax of CSS2 declarations, properties and attributes.
  • Strong understanding of CSS box model and methods for CSS positioning.
  • Should have experience with CSS3.
  • Experience specifying different CSS for various media, devices and displays (responsive design).
  • Knowledge of how to employ the jQuery library for visual effects, event handling, and document manipulation.
  • In-depth experience with development and debugging tools for cross-browser/device testing.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience within design field required
  • 5 plus years corporate experience in web design
