While the entire dish is large enough, the actual space for the butter is very small so it's very easy to get the butter all over the inside of the cover and make a big mess.

I love my butter dish. There is not too much to say except that it came as described and works in keeping other smells and tastes OUT of my butter.

This butter dish is as attractive and practical as a butter dish should be. I appreciate the knob handle on top, and the lip into which the cover fits, This is a Christmas gift, and I think it is good enough for gift status.
