Silver Salt/Pepper Gravity Mill (7.75-in.)

by greg, CA

This was the biggest waste of money I think I have ever spent, I only opened one of these to use as a pepper grinder and it takes about 30 seconds to get the pepper out.I bought these due to its manufactures stated use, but it is not even close. I would have rated this product as a zero, but I wasn't given that option. This was suggested to me by a customer service employee who answered the phone. I know now that they don't know anything about the products (that) they sell. I will never use this company to purchase anything.

Very Disappointed

by James, VA
June 2, 2009

After the reviews I read prior to purchasing this product I thought this would be a great performer. However, after we got it it kept binding up when it was grinding pepper and it eventually just got completely bound up. We bought a hand (manual grind) pepper grinder to replace it because we love freshly ground pepper.

Bottom needs lube job

by John, MA

I had a Hell of a time trying to get the bottom off the mill so I could install the battries. After I got the bottom off, I smeared a little cooking oil around the inside of the base and, this sloved the problem of getting the bottom off the mill.

The price is a bit steep, but the mill works well. Be carefull when installing batteries or you will have peppercorns all over the floor. The bottom opens clockwise, instead of counter-clockwise.

This pepper mill is awesome, to say the least! We have had several “regular” pepper mills, but there always seems to be a problem of one sort or another with the consistent functioning of the mills. While the capacity of the Trudeau Gravity Mill, and the lifetime of its batteries, is mildly frustrating, it is a wonderful pepper mill! There is a rechargeable battery model available, but it is more expensive. However, we purchased it as well! My wife still prefers the original, but I lean toward the rechargeable model.

batteryholder/grinder actuator

by betty, PA

the grinder actuator is very touchy and eratic in that it does not always operate when inverted nor does it respond to a correction technique at each occurence of non operation.

Best peppermill ever.

by Craig, TX

When you load the batteries be prepared for the pre-loaded pepper to go everywhere...thet is the only design (shipping) flaw. I am buying another for sea salt. I had used this at a friends and now have bought one for myself and this was my christmas gift to friends and family this year. Great product. The friend I had first seen it is a professional chef, so this item can be put to the test and stand up!

Came back for more..its THAT good.

I bought one of these for myself last fall and just love the ease of use, no problems at all with any of the peppers I have used. So I bought two more for my son-in-law who has problems with his hands, he was so thrilled at how easy it was and filled the second one with salt. I use mine daily and it has been about 9 months and the batteries are still just as strong as when they went in.

shortly after buying it, it stopped functioning as advertised. so, i emptied all the peppercorns, and found a few stuck in the track of the grinder. had to use a nail file to dislodge them. it's back to working as advertised. although it's not so easy to line up the base with the slots when you're trying to close it.

Junk

by Ken, NV
October 28, 2009

I discovered, by accident, that the manufactrurer fills the grinder with very soft pepper corns so that it doesn't jam. When I took the battery pack out, I accidentally spilled all the pepper out and some of it fell on the floor and I stepped on it. I noticed that the pepper corns were very soft; I could crush them with my fingers. I became suspicious because another purchaser mentioned a problem with the grinder jamming. So I filled it with pepper from McCormick spice comany and, sure enough, it immediately jammed repeatedly. I then tried pepper from Kirkland (COSTCO) with the same result. I immediately sent it back for a refund. That thing is a worthless piece of junk.

I like this pepper mill. Unlike most mills, it sits grinder up, so it doesn't leak pepper into shelves or on a table. The pepper coarse/fine adjustment could use improvement - ther does not seem to be much difference between coarse and fine.

I have 2 of these pepper mills and they are great. I have not tried another brand but these work really good. I bought the first one to use at my stove and my husband wanted one to use at the table he liked it so well.

This is the MOST fantastic product I have ever had in my kitchen. We love pepper and have struggled with so many tall beautiful looking peppermills, but this is truly the Rolls Royce of peppermills. I show it to everyone who comes into my house and sing its praises, what a terrific product, also bought one for my gourmet cook dau and am saving the experience for her birthday. It is truly MINT, what else can I say and I am a hypercritical person, so you know everyone just HAS to have one of these.

great grinder

by Petra, TX
August 5, 2007

This one is easy to operate. I like that it doesn't leave a pile of salt or pepper where it stands like bottom style grinders. I had the pump and grind style before this one, which worked fine for satl but was a slow tedious process for pepper. I like this one much better, smooth operation for both salt and pepper. The only drawback is that the selction for textures should give you a wider range, there doesn't seem to be much difference from fine to coarse.

handy tool for the kitchen

by Mark, WA

This electric peppermill works intuitively-- it automatically grinds when you invert it-- making it very simple to operate with one hand. I actually prefer the surface texture of the red version, but the chrome model seems to appeal more to people's sense of aesthetics, so I gave those out as gifts. I suggest a black one filled with sea salt, and a chrome one filled with black peppercorns.

Personally, I'm not fond of the multi-colored peppercorns included with the mill, so I suggest swapping them out with regular black peppercorns. Also, it is important to adjust the grind setting right away-- my brother didn't adjust his when he first got it, so it quickly jammed up. Other than those minor criticisms, I think it is a great peppermill for home use. (It is a bit slow for commercial use.)

Extremely Pleased

by Richard, UT
January 23, 2009

I read all the reviews before buying this pepper mill and I must say they were right on the mark. It functions as advertised and delivers enough pepper very quickly to please even the most die hard pepper user. We've been using it for over a month now so I can not comment o it's longevity but we are so pleased with it that we are buying another for sea salt.

I love this Pepper Mill. It is so nice to be able to just turn it over and it grinds by itself. I think it is great and recommend it to everyone that is looking for a Pepper Mill.

This pepper grinder delivers fresh gound pepper to people with arthritis or other problems that make it difficult to operate most other grinders. It also looks very sleek and modern.
