As the star of the enormously popular TV program Iron Chef America, Cat Cora regularly battles the legendary chefs Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, and Masaharu Morimoto to create spectacular meals in record time. So she is used to putting together inspired dishes on a moment’s notice. Now the vivacious chef and mom shows how to apply her friendly “go-with-what-you’ve-got” philosophy to create simple, sensational meals.

Cooking from the Hip showcases more than 100 dishes, divided into convenient categories: FAST (thirty minutes or less), EASY (interruption-proof), FUN (relaxing to prepare with friends), and PHENOMENAL (special dishes for special evenings). Cooks can turn to whichever section suits their needs, whether it be dinner in twenty minutes or a fantastic recipe for a spur-of-the-moment Friday get together.

“Cooking from the hip” means flexibility. It means cutting down steps, combining just a few ingredients in inventive ways, pulling in leftovers, and wowing family and friends in the process.

I love her cooking! Her style and flavors are similar to what my family is used to. She uses many different but also easy ingredients - very convenient for any family budget! Great cook book!

Cooking with a friend

Unlike many of the cookbooks by famous chefs, this is a more personal cookbook making it seem as if you know the chef. The recipes are easy to follow and use ingredients that do not require a trip to a specialty store. Her exotic creations as an Iron Chef are not found in this book, this is a cookbook for the hobby cook. One of my favorites and the pages are becoming tattered and soiled.

My 17 yo son loves Cat Cora and asked for this cookbook for Christmas. My husband and I purchased it for him and I was very impressed with it. I know he will enjoy using it to broaden his cooking skills.

Quite sophisticated..

by Larry, CA
January 1, 2013

I liked a good many of the recipies, but, find them just a little too sophisticated for the average home. I think I would enjoy most of the recipies and would enjoy putting them together. However, several have ingredients which are not readily available at my local markets and not something I could keep stocked at home. Most of the recipies are appropriate for expensive resturant fair and not so much Home Cooking for my family. The book is well written and very informative, just not what I was looking for or something I can use at home. Sincerely, Rehd Brown
