This is a handy item to have if you cook roasts; it supplements my instant read thermometer and does a fine job, however, there is no on/off switch. As far as I can tell you must remove the battery from the unit to turn it off. The temperature readout on the front is generally easy to see, but the text you must see to change the settings is very tiny.

Good Value Product
Pros:
1. Compact size
2. Display is very readable.
3. Good instruction booklet.
4. Can be used to measure air temperatures anywhere, e.g., the temperature of the air from AC/Heat Vents.
Cons:
1. The response time for displaying the temperature is a little slow but for the price.... Instant read thermometer are very expensive.
2. The magnet for attaching the thermometer could be a little stronger. The probe wire tends to pull the meter loose from the surface on which it is magnetically attached.
Thermometer
The alert is kind of confusing. It needs turned on each time you use your thermometer. Also, when the thermometer reads a meat to low to register it alarms. Other than that it is great. I would not roast meat without one.

I was only able to use this item a few times but it seem to work well.
9 of 17 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »We could not find any way to turn the unit off without removing the battery unless there is something in the instructions that is not understandable. There is a timer function on it, but it is basically useless given all the other timers that are available in the kitchen. The lack of a turnoff feature is the one undesireable feature of this product, otherwise it does it's basic function very well; it takes the temperature of what you are cooking.

Cook by temp and every thing comes out great! Cable is long enough to use conveniently.

This is so complicated to use I can't even tell if it is defective or not!
It's okay. I love the clip that can be attached to a pot so you can use the probe as a deep fry/candy thermometer, BUT... There's no ON/OFF switch on this thing! Instructions say "doesn't use much battery when not measuring", but you have to make sure the temp isn't changing (no other way to tell if temp's measuring except if it's going up or down...) and that the timer isn't running. SO, knowing if the battery's being drained is a little difficult. I finally just removed it since I don't roast/fry very often. For the all-the-time roaster/fryer chef, this would probably be awesome, but the price is a bit steep for these lacks in its features.

Very easy to use.

Will wonders ever cease? I didn't use the timer function as yet, but there are other cuts of meat waiting to be roasted during the holiday season. A Christmas Eve Roast Beef cooked to perfection is my next task to tackle!

I bought this to measure the temp of my Christmas roast and oil for frying tempura. My roast turned out medium rare, just how I wanted it. The tempure was cooked perfectly. Seems to work well. easy to clean and use. My advice is to shop around first, I found this product for 20 dollars cheaper on another web site, after I bought it from cooking.com. I tried to cancel my order about 3 hours after I placed it. It was not possible.

Great electronic therometer, used it on a roast a few days after it arrived, and it worked like a charm. Roast came out beautifully, and that was thanks to the thermoneter. The long cord from probe to the thermometer is most handy. The screen and digital read out makes it easy to read from accross the kitchen. The timer beeps, that lets you know when the food, be it chicken, roast, or sugar syrup is ready, and has reached the appropriate temperature.I would deffinately reccommend this product to family and friends.

4 of 4 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »This probe/timer was to be a replacement for one we'd literally worn out. Probe is OK but you can't turn the timer dial to off, nor does it have seconds, only minutes on the dial.
4 of 5 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »high temp limit
I like that this meter has the highest temperature limit so that I can gauge my oven temp. Kind of weird interface, but you get use to it and it works fine. Only wish that the audible alarm was louder, like the Polder. I can't hear it when I'm downstairs waiting for my temp to come up.

Only used once so far and it reached temperator too fast but I probably did not insert it correctly into the turkey. Have to give it more use before I can fairly review it.
