BIGGER SIZE BUT HARDER TO USE
Want to make several batches of cookies at once?
The larger size mixer promises great results and doesn't disappoint. The mixer has more power than the conventional stand mixer and makes quick work of incorporating ingredients.
I found the mixer bowl to be a little hard to handle; it sits precariously on two posts outside the perimeter of the bowl. Getting the bowl nestled in just so took longer than the smaller mixer's twist bowl bottom configuration. The mixer head does not lower into the bowl; instead the bowl rises to meet the beater. i wanted to adjust the head downward slightly for a tighter fit; but the mixer doesn't currently have an adjustment for the top.
The mixer has a larger footprint than the smaller Kitchenaid mixer; and I miss the ease in using the smaller appliance. The mixer has more power but the question is; do you need it?
I think I traded in my BMW for a Suburban. Great mixer, lots of space for big jobs. But for everyday use, I want my smaller Kitchenaid stand mixer back.
I am very happy with my new mixer. It has a nice large bowl and does a great job.Everything from mashed potatoes to bread dough comes out perfect, with no effort on my part! I even tried divinity (which would have killed my hand mixer)and it had no problem at all even after 20 minutes.Best of all it frees me for other things while it does the work.I would recommend it to anyone.

This 6 quart stand mixer from Kitchen Aid is the best I have ever owned.
It is extremely sturdy, with a huge bowl, and it has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it.
No wobbling, no hesitating, no whining.
I find I spend much less time scraping down the sides of the bowl with this new wider bowl.
The fact that I can adjust the position of the paddle, etc. with one little screw, makes all the difference in the world as to whether my ingredients get mixed together or not.
No more finding flour or cream cheese left on the bottom or corners of the bowl.
The fact that the bowl lifts up to the mixer is something new to me and I love it. My old mixer was a 'flip-top' and I used to worry it would flip right into the next county, if I wasn't careful. No need to worry now! The lever is quick and smooth, and when you lock it into place, you know you are ready (and safe) to go.
I owned an old 5qt Professional KitchenAid for many years and loved it. I was finally able to upgrade to the larger model and so far it is just as amazing as the earlier model with a lot of great features....my favorite being the slow start which prevents flour and other dry ingredients from flying out of the bowl. It is much quieter then the earlier model and as has been the case in the past I am very happy with the KitchenAid line of products.

I have had a standard-sized Kitchenaid mixer for over 20 years, and I'm still in love with it. However, I wanted a larger-capacity and higher-power mixer to handle larger batches, so I purchased this one. The motor is very strong, but while it can handle a larger, heavier batch (such as cookie dough), it does so at the expense of the stability of the rest of the machine - it shakes around instead of standing nice and solid. I'm thinking I should have selected a new mixer with the larger capacity, but not so much extra motor - I don't think it's really needed.

The power of this machine is pretty impressive. If it didn't have an orbital motion on the mixing element you could probably use it as a drill press. My only complaint is that the mechanism that holds the bowl onto the machine is too weak for the power of the mixer. If you mix large amounts of stuff, say 5lbs of potatoes or an equal amount of bread dough, the mixing bowl rocks back and forth and occaisionally hops off the back bracket that holds it onto the machine.
Another minor annoyance for me was all the mixing attachments were aluminum. My mon has the same model mixer that she got like 15 years ago and the mixing attacchments are steel. The bowl on her machine requires some muscle to get onto the mounting bracket, which I also like. I'd rather spend the effort to get the thing on there sold than have 5lbs of partially mashed potatoes go sliding all over my counter when the mouting bracket releases on its own.
This is a big mixer for big boys and girls. They shouldn't have wussed-down the design.
I've never purchased a KitchenAid product that I didn't love. This stand mixer has more than plenty of power and capacity for any home cook and the Nickel Pearl finish fits in almost perfectly with stainless steel appliances.

However, I am so disappointed in it! It is so much noiser/louder than my old Kitchenaid stand mixer. If I hadn't thrown away all the wrappings, I would have sent it back just for that reason alone. The beaters are not of the same quality as my old mixer. They seem to be metal-plated and even with each washing a gray metal oil-like substance appears in my batter when using. I plan to contact Kitchenaid directly with the problem; hopefully they will replace the beaters. CB

I bought this mixer for my mother, and she loves it. She uses it all the time. She had made bread and many other things and she says it exceeded her expectations. Very sturdy. However, later found the same mixer for almost $100 less at Lowe's online.

Love. Love. Love this mixer. We are going to very happy together for a very long time. I gave this mixer a 4 rating due to the 4 things to note. 4 THINGS TO NOTE: ~~~ Locking the bowl onto the stand is a little tricky... but I think I'm getting the hang of it. When I read the booklet... don't remember that being addressed. ~~~ It takes a moment when you start the mixer for the mixer to 'GO'. There's a delay. 'Go' slow. At first, I thought this was a disappointment .... compared to my 3 qt KitchenAid mixer (zoom zoom). ~~~ IF you are whipping 3 egg whites ... the whipper doesn't touch them. If you add ONE more egg white, there is success. I use XtraLarge eggs. ~~~ Seems to throw the batter against the walls of the bowl more than usual and you need to stop and scrap down. Seems like I see Martha do that more often now that I am in the know.

Super product. the only thing I could see to improve the product is to have the ability for smaller bowls when one is making a smaller batch.

I am a cookie baker for my own business. I purchased this item so I could make larger batches of cookie dough. That is the only feature I am happy with, the size of the bowl. I also have a Kitchenaid stand mixer 4.5qt which I love. The motor on the 7qt mixer has a very high pitched whining sound, the steel paddle is already chipping & I do not like the fact that you can only lower the bowl without tilting the top back. I have to struggle to get the paddle out of the cookie dough.

Bought this to replace a smaller KitchAid (4.5 quart) stand mixer. 6 quart bowl has great capacity for mixing double batches of pizza dough, bread, and cookie dough. Empire Red color compliments kitchen very well. Mixers well, whips cream well. Powerful motor doesn't slow down in cookie dough. Bread hook kneads dough great.

The quality from K.Aid was not expected. Thats why I usually go w/the name brand that I have and the quality that it's known for.

It is really big and just not for me. I ended up with the Cuisinart. This kitchenaid mixer would have been my second one the first kitchen aid mixer the gears were plastic and did not fair well and this one was damaged and I just gave up at that point.
I am happy with the Cuisinart.
MY OLD KITCHENAID WAS OVER 30 YEARS OLD AND WAS WORKING PERFECTILY. I'VE STARTED MAKING BREAD AGAIN AND I WANTED A LARGE MACHINE THAT COULD HANDLE LARGE AMOUNTS OF FLOUR. THIS ONE IS GREAT. I DID WHIPPED CREAM YESTERDAY AND ALMOST HAD BUTTER. IT WORKS FASTED THAN I'M USED TO. GREAT MIXER. DON'T HESITATE TO PURCHASE ONE.

Great strong and powerful. I have had another Kitchen Aid that did not have the power which this provides while being only slightly larger and heavier.
15 of 23 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »I bought this mixer because my old one wasn't strong enough to knead whole grain breads. This one over-heated and shut-off for about 30 minutes the first time I tried it on bread.
I accidentally loaded the beater into the dishwasher and all the shiny color (fake stainless steel) came off. The instructions tell you not to wash it in the dishwasher. It's now a dull grey color. Oops.
Workhorse
Handles 3kg of 65% hydration sourdough bread dough with 10% rye flour without strain. Developed excellent structure with only 6 minutes of kneading which was broken down to 2 minute sessions with an autolyze rest period between sessions.
I bought this machine for weekly bread baking, and so far I'm very impressed with the results.
Kitchen Aid 600
I love this machine! It can handle anything. I was afraid I wasn't going to like the crank up bowl (I thought I would prefer a tilting head model) but that certainly hasn't been a problem at all. I look for things to make in it on my days off, and my husband has even started making bread since we bought it.
