Good rack with some minor flaws

by Chad, TX

Used every day now for 4 months, the drainage tray with the spout has really been a pleasure and a plus. Keeps the counter dry and mold-free, and now I don't have to wait for rinsed dishes to drip in the sink before placing them on the rack. The stainless rack stays shiny, clean, no problem. The plastic tray and plastic racks will get a little grimy and need cleaning once a month. I wish the drainage tray could stay put. It can slide around an inch or so if nudged, which is easy to do, and that can affect where the spout ends up dripping. The stainless rack and plastic flatware trays above are pretty good designs for versatility, but the unique shape of the grill takes some getting used to. Have to be real careful how you arrange bowls and glasses; there's a way that works and a way that doesn't. Easy to build yourself a collapsing house of (glass) cards. There are not quite enough bars on the long side. Small things like ramekins will slide out if you're not careful when you're stacking and removing. It's made to fold up and stow when you don't need it, but we keep it out all the time.

A well-made dish rack

by Anne, MA

OXO did a nice job with this dish rack. It holds A LOT of dishes, but somehow doesn't take up more space than my old rubber-coated wire rack did. It drains nicely, too. To the designers, I'd like two improvements: a) another wide slat on the knife rack to accommodate bigger knives (there's only one wide slat, and the rest are sized for steak knives), and b) longer prongs on the cup holders for taller cups and glasses.

Cleverly thought out

by Matthew, NY

Despite my ratings I think this is a pretty cleverly designed rack. Particularly good for those with a small kitchen. The different ways you can stack your dishes/glasses and what not make it very versatile.

So why the less than perfect rating well... I've found the draining nozzle doesn't quite drip at the end. Drips tend to travel underneath and go back towards the draining tray a little and so you have to be careful to ensure that it really is draining back into the sink as intended. Of course this could be a kitchen bench design fault (ie my my kitchen bench isn't flat enough) but regardless I feel the tray and the nozzle could have been designed with a little more tilt (BTW - you should be thoughtful of the orientation and positioning of the draining tray. The cups which match the supporting steel prongs have a very sutle depth to provide the draining tilt necessary).

Contrary to other ratings I think the other features are well thought out. For example the length of the glass holder prongs are neither too tall to preclude using them for deep bowls nor too short to preclude most glasses/mugs.

Unfortunately this is one of those items you have to try out at home to really find out how good value it is as it depends largely on what your cockery/glassware is like. Even a visit to the store is unlikely to provide all the answers.

the ultimate dish drain

by gladah, AK

I have been in search for the ultimate dish drain, and i finally found it in this one. It is large and the botton drain sits up off the counter and drains directly into the sink. No mess or water on the counter. I would recommend this to anyone.
