I bought these simply because they had a lid....I have used ice cube trays in the past, nut they leaked in the freezer, spilt while walking to it.So I was thrilled to see a snap on lid! The rubber cubes are wonderful, soft enough to push the frozen cubes out so easily, yet study to transport to the freezer. I am on my second tray now, first one worked perfect! I think these are a kitchen "must have", no wasted, wilted herbs again, ever. Whether you grow them or buy the bunches in the grocery store. these will save you money.
I was very surprised when I opened the package to find out that you get two trays per box! (I should have paid more attention!) The lid fits securely and is easy to "snap" on even if the cube sections are full or over full. If running the herbs through your food processor expect to use a lot of herbs, it took a lot more than I thought it would. Small enough to fit almost anywhere in the freezer and the silicone is very thick and sturdy. The only issues that I have had are; once frozen the rigid lid takes some effort to remove but I let them sit on the counter for a couple of minutes and it was fine and the instruction booklet listed only a few option for the liquids to use I would have loved to see a list of "this liquid will freeze well" and "this liquid will not freeze well"- most importantly vinegar and citrus juice.
I purchased 4 packages - 2 friends wanted a package each. With my 2 ~ have preserved some herbs & made mint ice that I use in iced tea or even my water. Love them! Easy to care for & pop the end products right out!
Although these are intended for freezing herbs, I use them to freeze my excess farm fresh eggs. These are great. The "egg cubes" come out cleanly, place in a freezer storage bag, and the "trays" are ready to use again. I plan to use them for their intended purpose as well!
This is the product I've been waiting for to preserve some of the wonderful summer herb bounty from my garden. I've already made 3 different kinds of herb cubes, and am ready for round two. I can't wait to have all of those flavorful herbs in the dead of winter to brighten up our food.
