I love all of KitchenAid products. This item will be used more in the summer months due to canning time.

I think its a little pricey considering you have to buy the grinder to use this accessory, which for me isn't a problem because I have uses for the grinder, but if you just wanted the strainer its unfortunate that you also have to have the grinder attachment.

I do a good amount of canning and have used the "foley" style (sits on top of pan with crank handle -- the simplest)
chinois sieves, and "sauce maker/strainer" (most complicated, and least effective in my opinion)...
This attachment for the Kitchen Aid is great... a little complicated to put together because it is an add on attachment to the food/meat grinder attachment.
A larger hopper would be nice too.
But this thing is very effective.... and the fact that I don't have to keep cranking something myself is wonderful, and I can just keep putting product in without stopping to crank.
I strongly recommend it for those who already have the Kitchen Aid mixer and food/meat grinder attachment.
If you don't already have the mixer, go with the "foley" style, unless you just need an excuse to buy the mixer.
I wanted the strainer attachment for making applesauce. I don't need the grinder, but had to buy it to get the part needed to use the strainer. I suggest that all parts needed to use the strainer be added to the package. I now have a grinder that I doubt that I will ever use and have a $50 attachment that sits in the closet.

Yes | No Report Violation »The Fruit and vegetable strainer attachement made my life easier when it can time to can tomatoes, I can a lot of sauce and this attachement is the best, wash the tomatoe, slice it and push it in the grindger and the juice comes out one side and the skin and seeds come out another end, no more hand cranking, I can do 5 gallons or more of sauce in 1 hour, what a time saver. Can't wait to make applesauce. Love it, recommend it to any one who used a food mill. It's great.

3 of 3 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »The strainer attachment made making my soup mix so much easier than putting it thru a colander. There were no peels and seeds from the tomatoes in my soup mix. Soup mix started out to be a spaghetti sauce. But I figured if I took out the garlic and Italian seasoning, I could make it anything I wanted by adding the seasonings when I use it. This way it's excellent for spaghetti, chili, vegetable soup, whatever. I love my KitchenAid mixer.

I bought this to make applesauce with some apples my dad gave me that are very soft as soon as they get ripe. All I did was quarter the apples, boil them until soft, and put the quartered apples into the fruit/vegetable strainer. All of the core, peels, stems, seeds, etc. were very nicely separated from the applesauce. It was a bit messy, but worked great. As with most of the Kitchenaid attachments, I think that their products are overpriced for what they are. I buy them and use them and I think they are great products (never had any problems), but I believe that Kitchenaid makes too much money off the attachments.

We will use this for at least a week during the end of August this year and can about 72 quarts of sauce.
We (I mostly) do not like seeds from any fruit...so this attachment is GREAT....
We have made all my sons baby food. This is great for any soft fruit puree. We have made tons of apple and pear sauce with this. This works great for bananas as well. My only complaint is the shield can be knocked out of place (rotates) if knocked with your elbow.

Cut the time it 1/2 that it would take to do it by hand. I give it a big hands up. It was not real messy when I used it. Clean up was a breeze.
