The very *BEST* tasting coffee!
For the few extra minutes it takes to make the coffee it's more than worth it. I love my Bodum Santos/Pebo and highly recommend to all those who are willing to sacrifice a tiny bit of convenience for a huge amount of taste.

I purchased this on the basis of curiosity... It is interesting to watch your coffee brew in this contraption, but it sure is not fun to clean afterward. We use it to brew our special coffee, using it every day would just be too much work. I do recommend this for people that want a change of pace in their coffee experience.

My husband gave it to him two days before Christmas so that we could all have some coffee. It was quite a show and the coffee was smooth and delicious and almost creamy. It was truly a hit!

As a young lad I was amazed by these coffee pots in resturants and grills. Now, my grandchildren are also amazed by the movement of fluids. The system also makes great coffee.
I highly recommend this Vacuum brewer both for good hot coffee and for its entertainment value while you are brewing!
Great Coffee
I roast my own coffee beans at home. I want the best coffee I can get, and I had heard that the vacuum system was the best. I think it is. I have a gas stove, and the process, from filling the pot to drinking coffee, takes 20 minutes. I grind the beans the same as I do for a drip coffee maker, and the coffee comes out full bodied, but not killer strong.
The tricks are that you have to let the water left in the bottom boil for about 20 seconds after the bulk of the water has gone up into the upper chamber. This helps create a stronger vacuum action.
For cleanup, put some water in the upper chamber where the grounds are, and dump it into a gold filter I had for my drip machine. Once the grounds have given up their water, I dump them in the trash and rinse the filter.
This is definitely more work than a drip machine, but the coffee is more fully developed in the cup. I don't use it every day, but when I have the time, It's worth the effort.
americans can be fools for their coffee

Wonderful and beautiful unit. I remember such a coffee maker (I don't know if Bodum made it then) when I was a teenager 60 years ago and got one (a Bodum) some 20 years ago but reordered it recently when I broke it.
I hope that I'll continue to use it another 20 years at least when I'll be 98 years old.
Feel free to quote me.
