Good Eats 2: The Middle Years picks up where the bestselling Good Eats: The Early Years left off. Showcasing everything Alton Brown fans (and they are legion!) have ever wanted to know about his award-winning television show, The Middle Years is chock-full of behind-the-scenes photographs and trivia, science-of-food information, cooking tips, and--of course--recipes.

Brown’s particular genius lies in teaching the chemistry of cooking with levity and exuberance. In episodes such as “Fit to Be Tied” (meat roulades), “Crustacean Nation” (crab), and “Ill-Gotten Grains” (wheat products), Brown explains everything from how to make the perfect omelet to how to stuff your own sausages. With hundreds of entertaining photographs, along with Brown’s inimitable line drawings and signature witty writing, this comprehensive companion book conveys the same wildly creative spirit as the show itself.

Great deal for an excellent book

by DONNA, SC

I got this book/dvd for less than I spend on the early years cookbook. And this one has some of the best recipes I remember from the show. Can't wait to go through it one episode at a time!

Alton Brown never fails to make us laugh!

by Debbie, WA
October 13, 2010

Good Eats 2 is as entertaining as the first. Some would say it's "not a cook book", but it is. What it's not is a "recipe" book. Alton provides the method you provide the desire. We all like to experiment with recipes...Alton urges us to do so. This is a wonderful read and Alton's quirky sense of humor comes through on every page. You won't regret this purchase.

Can't wait for the next one

by Angie, WA
October 13, 2010

It was exactly what I expected after the first book. I have all if the Good Eats episodes on DVD from the years these two books cover, but it's nice to have it in writing. I also liked the little behind the scenes tidbits that Alton gave us. I've also been having problems with my pie crust it was nice to find out it wasnt my fault! Nice job AB can't wait for the next one! Angie

I purchased this cookbook for my son who is an avid fan of Alton's. He was thrilled when he received the book. If Alton cooks it, my son is going to try it too.

I returned the book because it had too much story. The book was too big & too heavy. you should tell people it is a coffee table book.

excellent book, frustrating marketing

by Susan, TX
October 15, 2010

frustrated that the signed copies are advertised but never actually available...has happened with food network to me on several occasions. I ordered this one within 3 hours and they were gone. Was promised several more would be released the next day, were not signed, ordered anyway since I was told may not be any more for a few weeks and a few more signed copies were offered for sale THE NEXT DAY. Loyal food network customers should not be treated that way.

Alton Brown - Good Eats 2

by Peggy, NC
October 14, 2010

All of Alton Brown's books are top-notch. This one is no exception. I enjoyed reading about episodes I had missed while they were on TV. Good Eats 1 is just as good. Buy both!

I was VERY dissapointed that the book I ordered was not a signed edition. Thought I hit the correct selection but there were several items to choose from and the discriptions were not clear.

Cookbook vs Recipe Book

by Leesa, TX
November 2, 2010

I have thoroughly enjoyed Volume 1 and was anxiously awaiting Volume 2. Love the detail in the books, love knowing every episode is available at my finger tips with all the reasons why we do the things we do with food; and why the food reacts as it does! Looking forward to the next volume!

I love Alton Brown. He has his own way of doing things and is very refreshing compared to other chefs. And I have learned so many things from both of his books 1 & 2. I am still in the process of reading book 2.

Confusing

by Heather, MA
October 27, 2010

While I'm very happy with my purchase, I was trying to purchase one of the signed copies of this book. When looking for it on the website, though, I couldn't tell if it was or was not signed, and when I searched for a signed copy, it came back with no results found. You might want to work on the user friendliness of this part of your site.

His books are so informative and interesting! "joy of cooking" used to be the "go to" cookbook if you wanted to learn about something .... now its" good eats "first.... He really knows how to keep your interest and the recipes are great! I bought 3 copies for christmas presents ... keep up the good work

The book is great, however, I was hoping for an autographed copy, as advertised. I realize that there were a limited number of signed copies, but when I ordered the book, nothing was noted that it had sold out, and I was ordering for my daughter, who is a huge fan. I also could have purchased the book from Costco for less money. Very disappointed in that as well.

My husband loves his cookbooks. He has the 1st one (I'm just here for the food) and it's his favorite cookbook. He will travel with it if he knows he'll be cooking. It's a must have cookbook.

My Opinion...For What It's Worth

by Jacqueline, IN
November 4, 2010

Alton Brown in his television program, through his DVDs, and written in his books, teaches about food and food preparation in a manner that appeals to me. I want to learn the how and the why of food and the proper utensils for its preparation. Preparing plain food and doing it well is a sign of a good cook, to me, and Alton covers all the points needed to help me become a better cook.

Two Forks Up! (or thumbs)

by Anthony, CA
November 12, 2010

Once again, Alton and his crew have put together an outstanding, easy to read and use "Cook Book". I don't like using the phrase "Cook Book" because it is so much more. Compact, one page recipes and additional information bring the entire "AB" experiance together. Can't wait for the 3rd Volume. It's sort of like a Star Wars trilogy. Only better. TF
