One day, back in the summer of 1992, I decided I wanted to make a television food show. I wasn't going to let the fact that I was little more than a hobbyist get in the way. The odyssey that followed became the program "Good Eats," which has managed to hold its own on the Food Network for over a decade. (It even won a Peabody Award, which is a pretty big deal.)

Good Eats: The Early Years is an encyclopedic work encompassing the show's first 80 episodes, from "Steak Your Claim" to "Casserole Over." Each show has its very own chapter, complete with remastered recipes, behind-the-scenes photos and lore, stunningly sophomoric illustrations, poetic narrative, and plenty of useful facts cleverly packaged in the form of knowledge concentrates (patent pending). We've even included bonus recipes that we've been selfishly hoarding over the years. Best of all, we've addressed a few nagging anomalies that have been chafing at our collective culinary conscience for all this time. Nothing big, mind you, but it does feel good to set a few things straight.

If you're a "Good Eats" fan, a cook, someone who eats, or just a sentient creature passing through the solar system, you'll want your very own copy of Good Eats: The Early Years. And don't worry, Good Eats: The Middle Ages is in the works as we speak.

May the food be with you.
--Alton Brown

This compilation fulfills that need to have the wisdom of the first 80 episodes at your fingertips. Not only are all of the on-air recipes and teachings included, but extra recipes and behind the scenes info as well. Those quirky little snippets are so well written, that you can almost hear Alton speaking them.

Anything that involves Alton Brown is super as far as I'm concerned! His show is entertaining as well as very informative. I've learned a lot from his shows as well as being very well entertained. I was happy to get some background on the shows I've loved and get to see some of the terrific people he has working with him. Here's to another 10 years of Good Eats!!! The book is great - absolutely love it!

Great Details

by JOHN, CA
November 5, 2009

The pages of this cookbook are full of information that can fill in the gaps and give one a better sense of how "cooking" works. Cooking is more like edible chemistry, and A. Brown's goal is to explain that with each demonstration.

I really enjoy Alton's scientific approach to food, not only does he explain with style and humour, he also gives little known, but valuable information as a bonus. I would love to have his kitchen!

What a joy to have all my fav Good Eats episodes at my finger tips. I received it just in time to simply copy the brining recipe for my Christmas turkey instead of having to download it from the website. This is great reference material and I see awesome science projects in my grandsons' future! Thanks again, AB....great job as usual! PS loved the Anniversary show!!!

This is a Christmas gift for my daughter. She specifically asked for this book for Christmas. Thanks for being so prompt with the shipping. It looks like a great book, but no time to look since it has to ship out to her in Alaska right away.

I was very happy when I received my book which I purchased for my husband for Christmas. I opened it right away, (which didn't take long for shipping) and was very pleased with the size and content. Can't wait to give it to him! He'll love it! (He also asked for it specifically)

December 19, 2009

I brought this book for a gift and liked it so much that I ordered another for the gift and shipped it direct. It is a big heavy book. The kind of book you embrace for a long time. You cannot go wrong having this in your kitchen and of course, Alton's humor is priceless. A great value for your money. You will love it for yourself or someone else.

Awesome buy

by Tabitha, KS

Got it for my mother for Christmas and she says that it's a book, not a cook book. She loves watching Good Eats and Alton Brown. This was the perfect gift for her. If you love Alton Brown and Good Eats, this is the perfect thing to get. I like the recipes that he has. It has even some of the stuff that he did on the show on the pages. Very cool.

Better than I expected!

by Eileen, NY
March 30, 2010

When I received this book, I never expected it to be so thorough. There is such a wealth of information contained within, and I learned so much from it. This is a book that you would gladly display on your coffee table, it's that rich. Of course, that's if it gets any time out of your kitchen. A beautiful work of art!

Alton fan

by Natalie, MO
May 10, 2010

I bought this for my husband who enjoys watching Alton and learning all the fun facts that he teaches. My husband said he really likes this cookbook; he said it's very straight forward and very detailed. I also thought it was fun that the book cover is a poster and that it came with a little piece of paper with Alton's autograph which you could remove paper from the back of and stick where you wished.
