Food Mill - A must for dedicated cook

by Donna, NJ
March 1, 2011

This kitchen appliance is a must in the kitchen.

It is extremely easy to use and clean.

I use my food mill for removing the seeds from cooked tomatoes, removing pulp or larger pieces from fruits and other vegetable for creating jellies and jams. It is wonderful for making mashed potatoes or spätzle. When my boys were younger I used it to make baby food. It was a great way to prepare my own baby food by using the food mill to puree my own food. I knew exactly what my babies were eating...cheaper too.

I recently started canning to preserve food for the first time. This food mill by OXO is just what I needed. It is not only easy to use, but easy to clean as well. Great product.

A high quality product

by Marilyn, OH
October 28, 2009

I've been looking for a food mill for a long time. Food Network store had a good selection and I'm very pleased with the one I purchased. It appears to be extremely well-made. I've been checking prices and the ones I've seen that come with additional blades are higher priced.

I love this product!

by Christine, IL
August 15, 2010

I have wanted a food mill for a long time, but the cost has been prohibitive...until I saw this one. The reasonable price prompted me to "try" this one, worrying a bit about the price and size, but I have used it now on several occasions and it delivers exactly what I had hoped for.
I've used it for ricing potatoes, juicing fruit and especially on all the tomatoes I have currently coming out of my garden! I don't know how I managed without it!
Excellent product at an excellent price!

This may not be the highest end product nor the most expensive but it is perfect with the grip it has and the ability to be washed in the dish washer with ease, I love it!

Buy Fresh, Eat Fresh

by Ada, WA
October 10, 2010

I had a mill (called a ricer back then) like this one years ago. The only thing this one is missing is the wire that scrapes the food off the bottom of the sieve/grate as you turn the handle. Otherwise, it's a well designed but more versatile replacement for my old one thanks to the different sized grates and the foldable supports that allow it to fit on different size pots and bowls. It's hard to find such a useful tool anymore that does not require electricity. If you are into green and healthy living, you'll be able to make fresh jams, fresh sauces and fresh purees and have complete control over the ingredients and texture of the final product.

best food mill I've used

by Suzanne, OR
November 20, 2010

This is a great food mill, I use for making large batches of apple sauce and apple butter. My hand would cramp up while holding onto my old foodmill, not with this one. Has rubber supports that don't slide around on top of the bowl ot pot. It also breaks down all the way for easy cleaning. Come with 3 hole sizes so I will be able to use it for more things. I love it.

I used the food mill for the first time on Thanksgiving for mashed potatoes. It was amazing! NO LUMPS!! It took a while to mill 10 pounds of potatoes but it was worth it. Everyone was amazed at how smooth the potatoes were. GREAT product.

Worth it!

by Ken, NJ
December 28, 2011

I used this product based on reading the recommendation to use a food mill, in Ina Garten's cookbooks. The first test for this mill was mashed potatoes - and the result was easy, creamy mashed potatoes - the best I've ever made.
The mil comes with three blades - easy to change and set up. The base has three legs, helping to stabilize the mill when in use. Reversing the handle helps to redirect the item(s) being milled, to let you get every drop without scraping with a spoon. Easy cleanup as well. For those cooks with dexterity issues, the mill is easy to turn; no squeezing or gripping required. This mill should be easier for those who have dexterity issues to use this product (than handheld ricers). Can't wait to use this product again - soon!

I bought this for canning this spring so I haven't used it yet but it's nice, reasonably heavy stainless steel. The pieces fit together nicely and operate smoothly. Like most OXO - good quality product

Working in the kitchen with arthritis

by Nancy, KY
March 30, 2012

I work in a restuarant and have developed arthritis in my thumbs. I would love to develop kitchen utensils etc for the people in my age bracket that find themselves productive people in the work force but physically aging. The product I ordered a food mill was the answer to a task I found increasingly more painful to do because of my thumbs. We make homemade tomato soup and former employees were pushing the mixture through a sieve with a ladle. This was becoming almost impossible for me because of the pain and lack of mobility in my thumbs. If you make a model that is twice as big in circumference that would be even better. Thank you. Oh, if you know of a can opener that opens large cans that would be great too.

Easy to use and clean

by Terri, OR
April 16, 2012

I like the OXO food mill for ease of use and cleaning. I use my mill mainly for seeding tomatoes and this really works well. I had a plastic food mill before and I couldn't get the stains out. I love the fact that this one is dishwasher safe.
My only complaint is that it seems to take a long time to get the food through the mill; like it isn't tight enough to the plate.
