Very good thermometer

by Patrick, CA
October 25, 2008

I use this thermometer on a daily basis and love it. I use it for everything from baking bread to making chicken. I use both the timer and the thermometer functions and have never had a complaint. It has a magnetic back and folds flat so I stick it to the fridge for storage or the oven while I am using it. I first saw Alton Brown using it so I had to have it. I don't think I could switch to another now that I have gotten used to it.

Bait and Switch???

by Darrin, IA

I have not used the product enough to give a viable opinion on it just yet. I just wanted to share the fact that what was pictrured in the description is not what you receive. I am refering to the temp probe cord. Pictured is a wire braided probe lead; what is sent is a silicone insulated lead. Reading the package, as I am pondering returning or not, I see stated boldly "1 year guarantee". This sways me to at least open it and try it. Upon opening and then reading the enclosed paperwork I am dismayed to see in the "fine print", the 1yr guarantee EXCLUDES the probe. Should I have researched better in the beginning.... probably. Hope I get my monies worth out of it, because right now I am not sold on it being worth what I spent.

Super Gadget!

by Michael, IN
December 14, 2008

This thermometer/timer is a super gadget to have in the kitchen. I used it on Thanksgiving to roast the perfect turkey using Alton Brown's recipe. The breast was perfectly done without drying out from overcooking. My wife and I especially like the timer for repeat baking such as several batches of cookies since we do not have to re-enter the bake time with each new batch. The timer retains the bake time until we choose to change it, so we simply press the start button each time we start a new batch. With our old timer, we had to reset it over and over. This is a great value and I think will make a great gift as well.

no on/off switch

by Nicholas, MO
December 4, 2009

When the product is not in use the battery has to be removed to turn the thing off. For home use this is a pain b/c if one does not remove the battery then it uses the juice and the battery is dead next time it needs to be used.

Very practical and easy to use. Only drawback is that there is not an "off" button, and we have to take the battery out after each use.

Works well, so far! My only complaint is the no on/off switch. It's not a big deal to remove the battery~just a nusence.

Great, but needs an off switch

by Vanessa, MI
November 25, 2009

This product is great for the price and I like the option to have a temperature alarm or a time alarm. The downside is that the temperature alarm only works for heating food, not cooling it down (I had a turkey cooling and wanted it to beep when it got to 145 degrees to avoid food born illnesses...no luck). It also does not have an off switch so the unit is always on and I'm concerned that the battery will run out soon.

The Jury is Still Out

While this thermometer has a lot of features, plus the long sensor wire, this is my second one. The first one worked for about two-minutes, then completely died.

A Must Have for Most Cooks

by Robert, CA
December 18, 2009

If you are hosting a large party, or cook regularly for hungry teens, the Polder Digital Classic Thermometer is a must have. Unless you own an oven with a well calibrated thermometer, this product will allow you to determine doneness according to internal temperature, instead of the less accurate cooking time x oven temperature process. Don't forget to set the alarm to a temperature approximately 5-10 degrees below your target temp. While the roast or bird is resting, the temp will continue to climb to your intended temperature. Never be disappointed by undercooked poultry or roast beef again!

High Tech Help for Daily Cooking

by Maria, CA
November 22, 2011

I plan to use this for the Thanksgiving Turkey and the Christmas Roast. No more guessing if the meat is ready or not. It provides so much feedback on the baking state of what is being cooked. I am thrilled to have it.
