Staub cast-iron cookware since 1974, was developed for the finest chefs in Europe. The benefit of Staub is the self-basting spikes under the flat lids that allows for self basting and slow cooking of roasts or chicken to insure tender and moist results. This dutch oven is excellent for side dishes, or smaller meals. I have used it over and over since I received it. My children use this pot when making sides for the meals. I can't say enough about how great this product is. If you could buy it for yourself, family, spouse, gift. You wouldn't ever get tired of using it.
I examined this Staub and La Crueset dutch ovens for weeks, and finally decided on the Staub. I'm so glad I made this choice. This item weighs a bit more than the Crueset and feels a lot sturdier. It also seems to roast better.
I own several pieces of Staub cookware and this is a nice size if you are cooking for four or less--I would probably go to a larger size oven for more servings, especially if whole cuts of meat are involved such as chicken or pork. This Dutch oven allows food to stay moist while cooking and there is nothing currently on the market that has the beautiful and rich colors you find in all Staub products. I love my pans and even my husband (who mainly cares about what I cook and not what I cook it in) admired how beautiful this pan is just to look at. I was thrilled to get this at the great promotional price offered here.
