Buyer

We are seeking a Buyer to join our Merchandising Team! This individual will report directly to the Director of Merchandising and will develop assortments by working with manufacturers and sales representatives to identify items to market, which will ensure financial success (sales, gross margin and inventory turn). The incumbent must be business oriented and possess the ability to drive growth in sales through strong analytical skills. In addition, the Buyer should possess the ability to work under pressure, handle multiple responsibilities and adapt to frequent shifts in priorities.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Increase category sales by analyzing product trends and historical data, including sales, margin and inventory utilization.
  • Select productive merchandise assortments that fit customer needs and search requests.
  • Drive increased category sales through assortment and promotion and regularly monitor assortment productivity.
  • Create promotions and theme ideas to support marketing vehicles including online search, email campaigns, and print catalogs.
  • Participate in developing newsletter and catalog assortments and content.
  • Negotiate vendor terms and maintain relationships.
  • Responsible for obtaining new product details for new item set-up.
  • Collaborate with inventory management, production and marketing teams to manage site merchandising (promotions, special collections, department landing pages, etc.).
  • Generate weekly and monthly sales updates.
  • Achieve quarterly financial targets (sales and margin).
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent


Required Skills and Experience:
  • 2+ years working knowledge of the following applications and systems:
  • Minimum 2 years retail buying experience within the housewares category
  • Strong sales initiative
  • Strong planning and financial skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work independently in a fast pace, rapid change ecommerce environment
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Catalog buying experience, sourcing and discounting experience a plus.
