I was looking for a book with more basic instructions and providing more definitions for different cooking terms. The recipes are good but without knowing what some things mean (for example "mince") it's not necessarily helpful. Not a bad book but not what I expected. If someone is looking for a cookbook with mostly recipes then, yes, I'd recommend it but if you're looking for basic instructions even before getting to recipes this book doesn't seem to fit that.

It's very basic. Great for beginners! It gives a lot of details that make it very easy to understand the procedures. I also like that it gives practical advice not only for the recipes but for cooking in general. Great book!

3 of 3 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »I ordered 4 of these books for gifts for nieces and a nephew who have recently moved out on their own. I looked through it and believe it will be a great help to them as beginner cooks. I've been cooking for 35 years and I could even learn from it!

I liked this book so much when I bought one for a gift so I ordered one for me. BUT mine came in not perfect condition....the paper cover was torn and the front corner was dented in some. But it is good enough for me. I was just a bit disappointed.
