It's just as described. You can leave butter out for days and keep it soft, as long as you change the water every 3rd day. Mine is always on the counter.

I really like the way the Butter Bell keeps my butter soft and fresh and it looks really nice setting on my counter. The only complaint I have is that the top (the bell) slides a little when setting on the base, just wonder what the reason for that is.
