Add a touch of French culinary heritage to your kitchen with the L. Tremain .5-Cup Ivory Rose Antique Collection Butter Bell Crock. Before the invention of refrigerators, similar crocks (originally called "beurriers") were used by French chefs to keep butter sweet, fresh and spreadable.
Use this crock to keep regular salted, unsalted and compound butters fresh by creating a watertight seal around them. This unique design keeps the butter soft enough to spread easily while maintaining its freshness. For even greater convenience, keep one on the dining table and one next to the toaster. To use the butter bell crock, simply press a stick of butter into the bell piece, put about 1/4 cup of cold water into the bottom of the cup and replace the lid, bell side down. It's best to place your L. Tremain butter bell crock away from direct sunlight or heat to help maintain the proper temperature. Properly used, this device will keep your butter fresh and spreadable for weeks at a time.
Love the Butter Bell but feel the price is a little high. Received one as a gift but it was dropped and broken - had to get another one to replace it. Really liked it and I would have bought more as gifts if the price was lower or if buying multiples qualified for better pricing.
As a 70 yr old, I thought I had every possible thing for my kitchen. This Butter Bell is indeed, unique. It's a bit intimidating at first.....always used butter in stick form! But once I found the ease of use from the crock....loved it! This will indeed be my next purchase for all family members.
I bought this, with some reservations, at the insistence of my wife. It is easy to use and seems to do everything as advertised. The real evaluation will be after it has set out for a week or so. We do not use very much butter so I am curious long this will hold up. It is a decoratife addition to our kitchen table though.
I'd never seen anything like this before, and ordered it in red to match my canister set. Not only does it add beauty to the kitchen, but it keeps the butter at exactly the right consistency. We get wide temperature fluctuations (in the mountains of northern California), from the mid-40's at night to the mid-90's during the day, but the water in the butter bell keeps the butter perfectly.
I purchased this crock while vacationing approximately 4 years ago. I love it however, my husband dropped the lid. We were happy to be able to find the same product and order it. In fact I ordered 2 because we are giving one as a gift. The price is slightly steep, however, especially while paying for shipping in addition to the crocks.
Friend recommended Butter Bell. I ordered because I disliked another type I had ordered from a cooking catalog; other type had water well under butter well but lid kept falling into butter well, making daily use messy. Butter Bell is clean and easy to use. Wonder if Butter Bell could be enlarged to hold more than one stick, so we could have more spreadable butter available w/o cleaning out the bell first? Maybe a stick and a half capacity so clean small look would not be compromised? What I do is add softened 1/2 stick so I can keep adding to it without having to clean out the bell to allow fit for a whole stick. It's working using 1/2 sticks available from Land O Lakes company at same price at full sticks.
I have a friend who is a pastry chef who told me about these and now that I have one, I don't know what I did without one!! I cannot wait to have friends and family over to show it off. It also matches my china I received from my mother and so I see a fancy dinner with the ButterBell sitting on the table with us. Happiness!
