I have had a standard-sized Kitchenaid mixer for over 20 years, and I'm still in love with it. However, I wanted a larger-capacity and higher-power mixer to handle larger batches, so I purchased this one. The motor is very strong, but while it can handle a larger, heavier batch (such as cookie dough), it does so at the expense of the stability of the rest of the machine - it shakes around instead of standing nice and solid. I'm thinking I should have selected a new mixer with the larger capacity, but not so much extra motor - I don't think it's really needed.
The power of this machine is pretty impressive. If it didn't have an orbital motion on the mixing element you could probably use it as a drill press. My only complaint is that the mechanism that holds the bowl onto the machine is too weak for the power of the mixer. If you mix large amounts of stuff, say 5lbs of potatoes or an equal amount of bread dough, the mixing bowl rocks back and forth and occaisionally hops off the back bracket that holds it onto the machine.
Another minor annoyance for me was all the mixing attachments were aluminum. My mon has the same model mixer that she got like 15 years ago and the mixing attacchments are steel. The bowl on her machine requires some muscle to get onto the mounting bracket, which I also like. I'd rather spend the effort to get the thing on there sold than have 5lbs of partially mashed potatoes go sliding all over my counter when the mouting bracket releases on its own.
This is a big mixer for big boys and girls. They shouldn't have wussed-down the design.
I've never purchased a KitchenAid product that I didn't love. This stand mixer has more than plenty of power and capacity for any home cook and the Nickel Pearl finish fits in almost perfectly with stainless steel appliances.
This mixer is awesome. It is so easy to mix up a quick batch of anything. No more worries about burning out my hand mixer on a stiff batch of dough. Whipped shortbread comes out perfectly - melt in your mouth - because you can leave the dough mixing for the required time will you do other things. I love this machine. Should have bought one years ago.
My wonderful boyfriend got me this mixer as an early Christmas gift for holiday baking and it is amazing. I was skeptical of its ability to knead bread up to my standards and it has done that and then some. I have tried each of my favorite recipes and it has done great things with all of them. I would recommend this machine to any serious baker.
It is really big and just not for me. I ended up with the Cuisinart. This kitchenaid mixer would have been my second one the first kitchen aid mixer the gears were plastic and did not fair well and this one was damaged and I just gave up at that point. I am happy with the Cuisinart.
Once my mixer arrived, my life turned upside down. I did not have an opportunity to try it out until last week, July 25, 2007. I tried two recipes and found that it was a good learning process and a confirmation that I had made the right choice in my purchase.
I mourned the almost one year of lack of use, but I had no control over it. Now that my life is back on track, I will put this mixer to very good use. In fact, a good friend and I have decided to get together once each week to make at least one recipe together (I'm trying to convince her that having a mixer like mine will be the best present she could give herself).
An event is coming up in September and I intend to bake at least 200 cookies or more for the fundraiser. I can do it with my KitchenAid!
Of course some folks like the tilt-head models as they can be convenient sometimes but if you plan on storing your mixer on the counter under overhead cabinets then tilt-heads sometime can be more cumbersome to use as you must pull them out from under the overhead cabinets to use. This professional style bowl-raise model solves that. There is a very small learning curve going to a bowl-raise type but it's offset by it's positives. This mixer should last someone their entire life and is of the quality that it could be passed down to future generations. Also, there's been many of these made and parts will no doubt be plentiful for many years to come.
If you want the best, get this mixer. There's just no comparison.
I love my KitchenAid 600 Stand Mixer. I always waned a standmixer and since i trust KitchenAid products i was confidant that i would like it. Well i love it . It works great,it has awsome power, cuts work down in half the time. My hands are free,i cant say enougf good things about this product. Its Great. I will recommend this product to anyone that likes to cook and bake. Its a awsome piece of machinery.I thought the price was okay for what you get. Its the Cadilac of Mixers.
i bought this for my sister, so i cannot evaluate the product. However, my sister was estatic to recieve it. She is 74 and said it was something she wanted all her life. She loves to bake, especially carmel nut rolls and noodles.
I have wanted a KitchenAid for a long time but could never quite spend the money. I'm so glad I finally did. Love the bowl lift feature and am really glad I chose that model. I was worried that when I did smaller batches of things they might not get mixed well but I haven't had a problem from one cake mix up to a LOT of mashed potatoes. I haven't had a mixer I could start and then walk away from like this one. It really helps when you're cooking a large meal.
I had my original KitchenAid Mixer for about 30 years and it still works like a charm. I purchased this mixer because of the large bowl. I like to mix bread and there is ample room. This mixer has much more power than the standard one. I recommend this to anyone who does a lot of baking. The only draw back is the size. Much larger than my old one.
If you are a baker, you need this tool. This is a professional quality machine that should last you a lifetime. Made with the usual KitchenAid quality and high standards. Makes all kinds of dough mixing a pleasure and a breeze, especially as we get older and mixing batters gets tiring ! You can't go wrong with this machine.
I bought this mixer to replace a 325 watt 5qt KitchenAid that had motor issues. Sometimes it worked and sometimes not. This one has no such problems even with stiff cookie dough. My holiday baking was a breeze. I find myself wanting to bake every day now ( tho' my scale says its not a good idea). I would highly recommend this to anyone who bakes.
