I have had a standard-sized Kitchenaid mixer for over 20 years, and I'm still in love with it. However, I wanted a larger-capacity and higher-power mixer to handle larger batches, so I purchased this one. The motor is very strong, but while it can handle a larger, heavier batch (such as cookie dough), it does so at the expense of the stability of the rest of the machine - it shakes around instead of standing nice and solid. I'm thinking I should have selected a new mixer with the larger capacity, but not so much extra motor - I don't think it's really needed.
The power of this machine is pretty impressive. If it didn't have an orbital motion on the mixing element you could probably use it as a drill press. My only complaint is that the mechanism that holds the bowl onto the machine is too weak for the power of the mixer. If you mix large amounts of stuff, say 5lbs of potatoes or an equal amount of bread dough, the mixing bowl rocks back and forth and occaisionally hops off the back bracket that holds it onto the machine.
Another minor annoyance for me was all the mixing attachments were aluminum. My mon has the same model mixer that she got like 15 years ago and the mixing attacchments are steel. The bowl on her machine requires some muscle to get onto the mounting bracket, which I also like. I'd rather spend the effort to get the thing on there sold than have 5lbs of partially mashed potatoes go sliding all over my counter when the mouting bracket releases on its own.
This is a big mixer for big boys and girls. They shouldn't have wussed-down the design.
I've never purchased a KitchenAid product that I didn't love. This stand mixer has more than plenty of power and capacity for any home cook and the Nickel Pearl finish fits in almost perfectly with stainless steel appliances.

this product by far is the best for the professional or the baking afficionado. the 6qt nickel pearrl professinal 600 mixer can deliver quality as-well-as quantity not only for bread making but also for pasta, meat grinding etc. A great product by KitchenAid.
We bought our first Kitchen Aid Mixer over 15 years ago and it still works like the day we bought it. We decided to upgrade to a stand design for the added capacity and stronger motor for operating many of the attachments that demand more torque. Making pasta using the attachments is very taxing on these motors but the Pro 600 does the job with ease. The power of the Pro 600 simply blew us away. These are amazing machines and they are so versatile everybody should own one. The Pro 600 is a great one whether you are buying your first one or upgrading like we did.
We skipped the smaller kitchenaid mixers and went straight to this beast. The holidays provided nice discounts, rebates and free shipping. The final price wasn't too far off from the smaller model. So far we love it. Cookies and cakes are a breeze. So is the usual fare. Haven't tried bread yet, but based on how powerful this mixer is, I'm sure it will do just fine. My only word of advice is that if you don't bake much or do larger than standard batches, this may be too much for you. Small batches tend to get lost in the 6qt mixing bowl and you have to do
more scraping with a spatula. Otherwise it's a wonderful machine.
I love this machine! It can handle anything. I was afraid I wasn't going to like the crank up bowl (I thought I would prefer a tilting head model) but that certainly hasn't been a problem at all. I look for things to make in it on my days off, and my husband has even started making bread since we bought it.
My wife and I have a older, less powerful unit and decided to up-grade. I grind alot of my own hamberger and ground meat to make home made sausage. The 600 makes the job easier. And of course for making bread dough to go along with the sausage, the 600 cant be beat.
After many years I finally found the mixer I'd waited for, at an unbeatable price. I am very happy with the power, look, and durability of this mixer. America's Test Kitchen rated this model as number one. And I'd have to agree. Thanks for a great price & product!
I bought this mixer special for mixing bread. I have cut my hand needing down to only a couple of minutes. I am well satisfied with the mixer. Wish I would have had one years ago. I really like this mixer.
This is my first stand mixer since using my mother's 20 years ago. I have been struggling with a handheld since, but I have to say this mixer is revolutionizing my cooking. Egg whites are whipped to fluffiness in minutes. Whipping cream only takes a minute or two. Creaming sugar and butter for cookie dough was done in no time, and mixing in the flour was a cinch! I just love the bowl lift system - it makes it very easy to add a bulky ingredient, then continue mixing. The slow start is good too, but it will not prevent you from getting a flour dusting in your kitchen if you go straight from off to setting 10! I find it a little strange that the speed is marked stir to 10 (stir, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10), but there are actually only 6 possible settings... Cleanup is very easy. Overall I am very happy, and can see that I will be baking more often and more ambitiously now I have the great tool!
It's a nice, solid mixer - stays put while in use, has bood speed control and the three different arms each work well. I have yet to get the knack of the plastic guard and scraping the bowl and it's one more thing to wash, so I suspect I won't be using it often.
I absolutely LOVE my new KitchenAid!!! I had to wait six years for it but it was worth the wait (I have always used my mom's at home but as soon as I went away to university I began dreaming of my own - now she is envious of my new one!)
