This slinky accessory looks like chain mail and is indeed the first line of defense against the knife in your other hand trying to worm its way inside the clasp of the mollusk. Knit with tiny, interlocking metal links and designed to fit either hand, this mesh glove is intended for use with oysters but would be suitable for any operation that requires hand protection—such as boning or filleting meat or fish, or even just slicing bagels.

Pricey, but it's cheaper than emergency....

by Alan, GA

For anyone who is entering the world of eating oysters, shucking your own becomes the price of admission. And depending on the oyster, it can be a steep price indeed, as you fumble and dig and pry and strain to get at that wondrous flesh hidden inside the shell. This glove is a game changer, and gives an amateur /aspiring shocker the confidence that a couple of dozen Island Creeks won't entail a visit to the emergency room in case your knife slips. By any stretch of the imagination, the glove is pricey, but there is no doubt, it is a top quality product and it is confidence inspiring if you have a couple of dozen shells to go through. If you love oysters, and you know who you are, the glove is like driving a Ferrari, perfectly suited for those sharp and twisty shells. If you love oysters, and rather leave the shucking to someone else, this is not a casual purchase. It is for the true oyster fan. For safety, it can't be beat, and if that's the criteria, it actually seems quite reasonable.

Not just for cooking, can be use for ART!!!

My husband keeps cutting his hand acidentally whenever he use the Xacto knives to cut paper for art at work. When I bought the oyster glove, he loved it and from now on, his hands has never been cut due to this wonderful oyster glove. Four times, he texted me saying his one of his fingers would have been cut today if he hadn't worn this glove. Worth it cuz he wouldn't have to go to the hospital again! Whoo whoo!

Good buy

Excellent tool for the job. It is possible to hold the oyster without its shell tearing up your hand and work the shucking knife safely. Easy to clean and durable. I would highly recommend this product.

Safety First

I bought this glove with one thing in mind . . . Safety first. The Doctor put me on blood thiners for a heart condition and cutting my hand becomes very dangerous now, with a threat of excessive bleeding. With the proper use of this glove I will never cut my left hand again while cutting or chopping foods or vegetables. I LOVE to cook and now there is one less thing to worry about.

Metal Mesh Oyster Glove

by Irene, NY

I received this item as a Christmas Gift. My husband and I recently became oyster farmers and plan on opening many oysters this summer. The glove gives an added sense of protection from the blade as well as the shell sides. Although I am able to open oysters without the glove, when I am entertaining, people drift into the kitchen or I am rushed and thus less careful and more distracted. The glove will give me the confidence that I will not need a trip to the ER during a dinner party. I have large hands for a woman and it feels a little loose. I would not recommend this glove for people with small hands. It comes one size fits all. The wrist strap is adjustable. It is quite costly and would prefer to see a lower price about $100.00 but I can understand that this glove is most likely hand crafted and like any chain mail item would be costly due to the manufacturing.
