For long distances, I put ice in the bottom and things get where they are going very well. I have used it without ice for short distances. This purchase was for a friend who has borrowed my green one in the past. Her birthday is in June, and since she really liked mine, I thought she would like this one. She travels a bit each week, and this will keep her food refrigerated and fresh.
