Pie Town, New Mexico, was once legendary for its extraordinary pies. But it’s been a while since these delectable desserts graced the counter at the local diner, and the townspeople have learned to live without them. They are hearty folk--a mix of Anglos, Hispanics, and Native Americans--and they like to think of themselves as family, especially when it comes to caring for a disabled little boy named Alex, who is being raised by his grandparents.

Unforeseen by all, Pie Town's fortunes are about to take a turn with the arrival of two newcomers. The new priest, Father George Morris, seems woefully unprepared for his first assignment. And then there is Trina, a young hitchhiker who some townsfolk just know is trouble. As Father George and Trina try to find their place in the insular town, rising tensions erupt into deep-seated rifts that threaten to permanently divide the small community. But like a thunderstorm rolling through the parched desert, the newcomers will transform the town and its people , reminding them that they have something more valuable than pies: a renewed sense of belonging and the chance for redemption.
