It is a fine mesh so when shaken does create a fine even coaing - perfect for sugar cookies and powdered sugar on bundt cakes. The stainless steel construction is excellent. There is a plastic cover that must be turned and pulled off that takes a little getting used to. However, this shaker is the best one I have found and definitely one I recommend.
