Sabatier Stainless Steel Steak Knife Set:
Laguiole (pronounced "lie-yole"), a small French mountain town about 350 miles south of Paris, is famous for its cattle, cheese and cutlery. The original Laguiole knife was made by iron smiths in 1829 as a farmer's tool. One legend about the knife's origin claims that a village innkeeper's son invented the knife's folding mechanism that later replaced
the capuchadou, a little folding dagger that herdsmen carried in their pockets or wore on their belts. This tool was later refined and became a defining part of the Laguiole steak knife that is used in many French
restaurants today. This set of Steak Knives is made with as much care and dedication as those made a century ago. Made of stainless steel, the knives come in a box for storing.

by Patricia (Pleasanton, CA) 1 review I have had a set of these Sabatier steak knives for about ten years. A relative admired mine and mentioned she'd like them for herself. I ordered the set but was a little disappointed in the current quality of the storage box. The wood was very rough and unfinished in the recently purchased set. The new knives had scalloped serrated blades instead of just serrated blades. Hopefully, they will work as well as the ones I've been using. The knives have a nice style and balance and are a little more formal than most steak knives. You can definitely use them with more formal china or with everyday dishes.
by Gail (Staten Island, NY) 1 review There's Laguiole and there's Laguiole. The name refers to a region of France, it's not a brand. Some Laguiole-made knives are works of art, with prices to match. Some aren't worth the box they came in.
This set of Laguiole style knives from Sabatier strikes a nice balance between those two extremes. Although stamped and not forged, these knives are very sharp - sharp enough that I sometimes grab one when a kitchen knife isn't handy. As a table knife, it's head and shoulders above the knives that came with my silverware, and noticeably better than the ones that came with my Sabatier block set. The box makes a reasonably attractive gift presentation.
So overall, this set makes a fine Christmas gift - well worth the money, and not a budget-breaker. What more could you ask for?
by Joseph (Palm City, FL) 8 reviews The knives perform the job they were constructed to do. We use they as everyday knives. The only negative is the are hand wash but worth the extra chore
by Keith (Trenton, NJ) 1 review The picture was different than the actual knife. Specifically, the name was shown as the traditional embossment, but it was laser etched instead and the font was different. These knives have a particular name style which was represented correctly online, but not in reality. So, I was a little disappointed and would not recommend them. The knives work fine and were priced nice, but I thought that I was getting a good deal on the traditional knives. But, it seems I got the cheaper end of the scale instead.
by Rana (Anaheim, CA) 2 reviews I wasn't impressed when I received these knives. They are sharp and do their job but are nothing fancy to look at. The Sabatier label on the blade is barely legible and looks as if they were poorly cast. The rosewood handle is nice but not the best I've ever seen and the price leaves much to be desired. I saw the same knives at TJMaxx which looked even nicer for about $16.99. Save your money. Go to the Maxx!!
