Starbucks entered into a historic agreement with TransFair USA in April 2000 to purchase Fair Trade Certified coffee which guarantees farmers adequate compensation for their crops. TransFair USA, a nonprofit organization, provides independent certification of Fair Trade products sold in the United States. In addition to promoting successful relationships between farmers and business, TransFair works to educate consumers about Fair Trade and economic development.
