She liked the idea of the bamboo plates because they are sturdy, made from a renewable natural resource and are very attractive. They were exactly as described and we were very happy with them. We also used recycled plasticware, napkins and cups, so the entire affair was clean and green! The plates do have a distinctive bamboo smell when they are first opened. I would suggest opening the packages several hours in advance to allow some "mellowing" time. It is not a bad smell, just a bit strong at first. It did NOT affect the taste of the food at all. Everyone enjoyed the evening and made many comments about the unique plates.

Just be sure that if you want to use them over again, don't immerse them in water as they will warp or fall apart. Just use a quick soapy sponging and a quick rinse and dry immediately.
