by Lloyd (Laurinburg, NC) 3 reviews I got this to replace a Hamilton Beach model that had developed some very ugly crud in the shaft, which was visible through the plastic covering, but was not able to be reached for cleaning. My wife refused to use it any more. Since she had a set of black Kitchen Aid appliances already, we opted for this new blender to add to her "set." It's a great tool -- very sturdy, does a great job (quickly) and I'm sure it will last a long time. The shaft is covered with a stainless shield so any "crud" that might accumulate will at least not be visible. The only problem is that the tip is too large to fit into a normal glass so smoothies have to be done in a larger container. The cord is also a bit shorter than I expected. With the attachments that come with it, storage may also be a problem.
