Emile Henry Blanc Au Gratin Dish:

The classic oval gratin dish is shallow enough to spread a thin layer of food with a perfectly browned crust or topping. The handles make it easy to remove the dish from the oven with potholders or oven gloves and is designed with shallow sloping sides, to ease out the cooked food.

About Emile Henry…
In the Burgundy region of France is the legendary maker of fine French cookware named Emile Henry. There, potters still hand craft each piece from the local Burgundy Clay - one of the purest of clays, and finish each one with a process known as CERADON, which makes them extremely solid and durable. Containing no lead or cadmium, the clay is one of the best materials for baking and serving.

Is it Good, Better, or Best?
Customer ReviewWould purchase againApr. 20, 2009
by Richard (Orem, UT)  1 review
I would rate this as Better. Cleans up nicely. The 3 qt. size is ideal for a large family (9 people). Quality, finish, color, and functionality is very good. One thing to note: this is stoneware and the bottom of the dish is unfinished or "gritty". This is fairly traditional for stoneware (unfinished undersides). As such, you must take precautions, such as putting this large dish on a place mat first to avoid scratching or marring certain types of counter top surfaces. The same is true for certain kitchen sink surfaces. The Le Crueset version of this dish (the one made in France, not Thailand... big difference) is a little more stylish and classy, but at 3-4 times the price. Absolutely ridiculous. This Emile Henry version is a far better value and performs very well. I would buy this dish again, if mine broke for whatever reason. So why not give it 5 stars? Nothing ever deserves 5 stars because if you've reached that point, there is no room for improvement. And there is ALWAYS room for improvement in anything and everything that is man-made.

Great gratin dish
Customer ReviewWould purchase againSep. 15, 2008

I've used it for mac and cheese, roasted potatoes, and next, I need to actually try gratin! It's an attractive dish, perfect large size for a family size casserole, and seems to hold and conduct heat very nicely. First one was received in pieces (it was packed pretty well, but in pieces inside all of that bubble wrap!), so contacted Cooking.com and they sent out another immediately. Quality of product is great, and Cooking.com service is great. You guys might want to check out whoever is shipping these dishes though, as I've seen prior posts from others that their baking dishes were originally received broken too.

This generously sized gratin dish is perfect for preparing large recipes for entertaining. It is beautifully made, conducts heat very evenly and is nice enough to put on the table.
