I've read all those negative reviews but I thought to give it a try because i wanted a fryer with oil draining system. STUPID ME! oil immediately leaked all over the counter (at least I was prepared thanks to other reviewers! and the oil wasn't hot yet...). Then we tried to drain it the spill on the counter was growing - very few drops go into the container, the rest was collecting on the lid and flowing to the counter... Half of my dinner was cold, the evening ruined...

by Kim (Fairfield, CA) 1 review I was very pleased with the fryer when it arrived. As we assembled it for a practice run, we noticed a couple of things that were wrong with it. When lifting the basket you have a really hard time hooking it with the top closed to prevent being splashed with oil. It really should have had a better ledge to catch it on. Secondly, The top does not secure down very well and when you move the basket at all. Other than those issues, it has worked extremely well. Assembles quickly, heats quickly, cooks very nicely, drains easily (we had no trouble with drainage at all) and it is beyond easy to clean! It also stores nicely on a pantry shelf which was why we were looking at a narrow design.
by John (Hyde Park, NY) 1 review The unit was slightly smaller than I had anticipated. Ad said it would hold 2 gallons. It does, but 1 gallon is oil, the other gallon is your food. So the unit will do French Fries, say, for two or three people tops.
Of course, I guess if you want a bigger fryer you'd have to go with a professional on costing $1000. I am happy with the unit, especially since all but the removeable heater element will disassemble and go in the dishwasher!
