KitchenAid Onyx Black Burr Grinder:
For gourmet coffee that tastes just like your favorite coffee house, try grinding your beans fresh before you brew. This commercial-style burr coffee mill from the KitchenAid Pro Line series is designed with large cutting burrs and offers 15 grind sizes from espresso fine to French press-coarse. And despite its rugged, professional size, the system runs at a low 450 RPMs, so it causes minimum frictional heating of grinds and produces little noise. Special controls deliver coffee to burrs rather than requiring you to pour them in at once, resulting in excellent consistency and better-tasting coffee. Other highlights include a bin seal plate, easy burr removal for cleaning and under-cabinet design so you can keep it on display at all times.
by Jessica (Washington, DC) 2 reviews We had an old KitchenAid burr mill grinder (the one that looks like a gumball machine) and it was awful - clogged all the time and sprayed coffee grinds 180 degrees horizontally all over my kitchen and it was LOUD, and I was reluctant to spend the $$ on a new one.
Now, I don't regret it at all. This is MUCH quiter and has not clogged once. Also, it is much easier to control the consistency of the grinds. Honestly, I can't believe I lived with the old one for so long.
by Tetsubumi (NEW YORK, NY) 3 reviews After all the reading, researching, trying to find something that isn't called a "Mazzer" (and set me back $600!) this came along, and I have to say that the only complaint I saw was that the bottom bowl was too thin...
So I laughed when I received it because: a. the bottom bowl's thicker than my press-pot; b. the whole thing is built like a tank (maybe it's the contrast that spooked folks?)
Without reading, I turned the knob the wrong way and ended up with this beautiful fine powder in seconds... too bad I don't need a drip-grind! When I figured out the coarse-grind, I was in heaven that the grind was even... and fast.
It has a very smooth operation, consistency, and relatively quiet to boot. Given that I was previously grinding by hand, it's now a pleasure to get up and make the coffee (without feeling like an organ-grinder!) It's not small, but I have to say there are many things I wouldn't have on my counter, and this one is one that is allowed to stay!
by Karen (Tyler, TX) 1 review This grinder works great. Of course there is a little noise, but what can you expect from a machine that is grinding up hard little beans. It is easy to operate and the ground is even with little or no hulls. It makes grinding your own coffee beans a pleasure. I would reccomend this product to my friends.
