For Ina Garten, creating a successful meal has nothing to do with what's in vogue; it's all about what's readily available, in season, and easy to prepare. In Back to Basics Ina explores how to bring the best out of ordinary ingredients for delicious meals that have that extra wow factor we've all come to expect from the Barefoot Contessa.
Which ingredient unlocks the purest chocolate flavor in brownie pudding? What twist makes an old favorite like tomato Caprese salad truly unique? How can you amp up the impact of butternut squash soup without overpowering the true butternut squash flavor? It's not always about finding the most exotic or costly ingredients--it's about finding the methods and flavor pairings that unlock the essence of good food.
Newcomers and longtime fans alike will love Ina's insights on building a menu, finishing a dish, and setting the scene for dinner, and an inspired roster of all-new recipes--ranging from Lobster Corn Chowder to Fresh Lemon Mousse and Easy Sticky Buns--demonstrates Ina's talent for transforming fresh, easy-to-find ingredients into an elegant meal without fuss or complications.
Ina's five previous bestselling cookbooks have sold an astonishing 6 million copies, and have inspired a show seen daily on Food Network and a line of packaged food products.
by Elizabeth (Richfield Springs, NY) 1 review Excellent explanations and menu planning, with the best quality ingredients. Ordered twice now from D'Artagnan and was very pleased with the quality. I now feel comfortable creating and serving these dishes to even the most discriminating guests at parties.
by Yvonne (Markesan, WI) 1 review I would like to collect all her cook books. She is one of my favorites on foodnetwork. Beautiful photos, easy to follow recipies with ingredients easly found even in a small town grocery store. I now have 3 of her books. Love you Ina. Cant wait till you come out with another book, will continue to watch you on food network.
by susan (Keyport, NJ) 1 review I spent my first weekend shopping and cooking 5 receipes from the book. Most of the ingredients I already had in the house which is why I like her "back to basics" idea. We are not fancy eaters and some are picky eaters. I had a wonderful time and enjoyed making the dinners I did.
Wish the prices were more competitive though - you can get them cheaper at stores - I was just too lazy to shop for them at the time but I LOVE the book!
by Sharon (Columbia, SC) 1 review I was reluctant to buy yet another cookbook since I can find most of the recipes online, but this book was so much more. Ina Garten includes ideas and suggestions about entertaining, how to arrange flowers, lists of dos and don't s and more. I love this book and will refer to it many times to come!
by Francis (Huntsville, TX) 2 reviews I have always loved Barefoot Contessa cookbooks. The recipes are really great and the instructions are easy to understand. The pictures help a great deal to show me what the finished product should be. I bought these two books to put in a basket to be part of a Silent Auction I am in charge of for our United Methodist Women. I am sure it will be a hit.
