It's a disgrace
I don't know what to call this concoction, it certainly isn't IRISH soda bread, in fact it's NOT soda bread a'tall. There is not any type of soda bread that needs yeast because then it's not relying on baking soda and REAL buttermilk for leavening. Water? Cornmeal? I would call this West Coast Soda-like Quick Bread, with apologies to my Kerry cousins in San Francisco.

Irish soda bread recipe review
When I was 12 my mom had a fellowship to study in Ireland. Along with my 7 brothers and sisters we lived there for a year. We went to Irish schools where they taught things like cookery (pronounced kuk-ri). One of the first things I learned was soda bread. I haven't made it in years and I decided to try this one. Except for the difference in flour (the Irish flour had green flecks), the bread was what I remember making. The smell took me back in time. Thank you for the recipe.

This may not be the traditional Soda Bread that I have made every year. but it's goodness itself, and so easy, with all the traditional flavors, but the texture is outstanding, browned crusty on the outside, and soft and to savor on the inside. Wont need to make it the day of St Paddys, this loaf will stay moist several days. I changed to raisins soaked (to plump them up) Just had a cuppa tea, and two slices with lashings of butter. Heavenly :o))) This is a keeper!....Thank-you.

Irish Soda Bread Recipe
I would not even try this recipe. It is not a true irish soda bread. Believe me, I have my mother-in-laws recipe who came from Ireland & anyone who tries absolutely loves it.
