Apple-Cranberry Upside-Down Cake
@ H. Dear H, You are looking at the "three rows" of apples and cranberries that is placed in the bottom of the pan, before the cake batter is poured on top and the cake is baked. Thus after baking, these 3 rows will be the top of the cake. It is called Upside-Down b/c it is baked that way and turned over after baking! Hope this clarifies it for you!

The upside down part
H. - The upside down part comes when you invert the cake onto a serving dish after baking. This places the fruit on top instead of the bottom.

This is in response to H who thought the picture was wrong. I thought the same at first but upon a second glance it is indeed an upside down cake (note the piece cut from it). However I suspect it hasn't been baked.

Picture does NOT corresponde with recipe, why??.
The photo show a cake in layers, NOT an upside down cake where all the fruits are place on the bottom and the batter on top. Please, explain. H.Heltai

Very Tasty Dessert
This was a very tasty dessert and only 225 calories. The flavor of the apples and cranberries was delightful. I used 1-1/2 ounces of almond biscotti's instead of the crackers for an additional flavor. Next time I may use orange pecan biscotti for more flavor. Highly recommend if you like upside-down cakes
