I am puzzled. How does one completely ignore the cake part of a recipe, substitute a cake mix and then rate this as a "Horrible Cake". Please try the recipe as written and then give it an honest review. I found this cake a keeper.

Moist and Fabulous Cake
Made this cake for a holiday treat. It turned out perfectly and was very festive looking for the holiday season. I used an All Clad 12 inch fry pan to bake it in. I followed the directions exactly. I turned it over onto a cake pedestal that was perfect for the pan and it came out very easily. The whole wheat pastry flour gave it kind of a nutty flavor. Everyone loved it!

Horrible Cake
Substitute a yellow cake mix for the cake. We ate 2 slices and threw the rest away. We reviewed the recipe and we made it right. Ugh!

Dry cake
Made for Thanksgiving. Did not have 12" skillet so used 10" everday pan. Could not find the whole wheat cake flour so use all AP. Cake came out course texture and dry. Will make it again but make as a two layer with additional cranberries in middle, maybe melt jelled cranberries with brown sugar for moisture and increase the amount of topping.

Awesome!
This is a relatively easy cake to bake. Super yummy! Reminds me a bit of my mom's rhubarb cake. Tart and sweet and a little rustic with the wheat flour. I highly recommend for a nice change for a Thanksgiving dessert. Very good.

family raved
I plan to make this again for Thanksgiving since my family raved about this dessert. I piped low fat whipped topping around the edges to decorate and it was the perfect combination with the cranberries.
