Delicious! But no carbs?
Really good -- not the Jamaican pudding on which it's based, but good in its own right. However, the nutritional information is definitely wrong -- this cake HAS carbs. How many would be a big help to those of us who are counting them.

advice before giving the cake a try. rating n/a
Having looked over the recipe it sounds like an interesting dessert to make. I have a ? regarding the sweet potatoes. The "Pig" had yams in last week. There's more weight and density based on picking them up. Would yams work as well as sweet potato? Could you share the myth & misnomers about yam vs. sweet potato in the US too? Thanks. After reading the reviews my thought for seeking flavor is go with dark rum. I'm leaning to switch out dark raisins to golden to add boost of sweet. Happy Holidays

with a bit of help...
Looking at the recipe, and taking the other reviews into consideration, I decided to try this with a bit of added spice. I seasoned it similarly to my pumpkin pie- in addition to the nutmeg, I added a little ginger and cinnamon, and just a bit of ground cloves. Because of te added spice, I increased the sugar just a tad. It was delicious. In fact, it will become an autumn go-to dessert in our house. Next time, I'll double the topping and it will be perfect!

Don't Bother
This recipe did not work for me. My husband and took one bite and put the rest in the trash.

Great dessert - not overly sweet
This is a fantastic dessert - everyone loved it, even the kids. The prevailing opinion: they liked it because it wasn't too sweet. There isn't a lot of flavor to this cake - the little bit of flavor is coming from the freshly grated nutmeg. I can't help but think that the people that hated the cake might have skimped on this step and used pre-ground, which is a definite no-no for this recipe.
