My mother made this cake for my birthday every year. Fabulous!!! She made three separate layers of the cake and then doubled the icing recipe. It was enormous.

Picture Perfect
It would be nice if the picture represented the recipe. Needed more coconut filing; I put a thin layer of ganache then the filing on each layer.

Just like Mom made; this is real german choc cake!
This is my favorite cake of all time. Every birthday my mom makes this for me. Great recipe. Takes some work but the end result is magic!

Boss loved it!
I made this recipe for my boss' birthday. He told me it was the BEST german chocolate cake he had EVER eaten! I received raves from other staff also. The only change I made to the recipe was that I whipped the chocolate ganache before speading it on the layer and I piped it onto the sides of the cake. Fantastic cake!!

It's a keeper!
I've made this cake for my husband's birthday. It was time consuming, but fairly easy to make. There are few things that I had to change. First, there is no way you can make 3 layers out of one batch of dough. So, I tripled the dough recipe. And I ended up having to double the ganache recipe. I toasted the coconut and pecans for the filling and used light brown sugar instead of the white. The result was a great big birthday cake with lots of compliments!
