So terrible you can get a laugh out of it!
The flavour is just awful. We tried imagining it was not a pumpkin pie, but we still couldn't eat a full slice. It was so bad that we all laughed. No one even pretended!

Unheard of
I have never heard of baking the crust before adding the pumpkin filling and then rebaking. When you rebake the crust with the pumpkin filling won't the crust burn? I want to try the pie with buttermilk but don't want to have a burnt crust.

OK for a one-time try
I am the designated "pie chef" at Thanksgiving & I wanted to try this but not on T-giving in case it was a dud. I'm glad I tried it & the overall consensus was that it was OK but definitely not as good as the regular Libby's version. I think part of the reason for the mediocre response was the lack of spicing; I even added some cinnamon b/c I thought that just a bit of Pumpkin Pie spice wasn't enough for flavor. The buttermilk did give a bit of tang which also seemed out of place.

Big hit with the fam.
Made this last Thanksgiving and it was a BIG hit! I think the buttermilk gives it a little savory tast.

clarification of instructions for recipe
Is the pie shell baked for 15 min at the lower temperature and cooled before adding the filling? Have not tried the recipe yet as I need this clarification - delete rating
