  18 1 c. servings
This basic recipe has been enjoyed by our Florida Pioneer Family for more than 150 years. Always served at Thanksgiving and Christmas, this is the one dish EVERYONE looks for on the buffet table !!
RECIPE INGREDIENTS
12 Oranges
12 Tangerines
6 Satsumas (if available)
6 Pink Grapefruit
6 Apples (Fiji or Gala my personal preference)
1 cup coarsely chopped Pecans
1 small jar of Maraschino Cherries, halved & drained  (optional)
Cane Sugar to taste (or low cal sweetener)
1 cup Large Flaked Coconut (optional)
Sweet Whipped Cream (optional)
DIRECTIONS
SERVES 18 (1 cup servings) .... It can be doubled or halved with no problem .....

1-2 Days Before serving:

Peel & section Oranges, Tangerines, Satsumas, and Grapefruit over a bowl. Reserve as much juice as possible. Be sure to remove all white pith, seed, and membranes from the citrus meat and place in large bowl. Strain reserved juice to remove seeds. Pour reserved juice over citrus.

Peel and cube apples, and add to citrus mix.

Next add chopped pecans.

Add maraschino cherries if desired ....

Next add cane sugar(or low cal sweetener) to taste ....the key is to take away to extreme tartness, but not to make too sweet.

Now chill mix for at least 24 -48 hours before serving. This allows the flavors to blend and mellow.

Add the flaked coconut a few hours prior to serving if desired ......

NOTE: Some of the family likes their fruit salad in sweet whipped cream ....so I strain some of this mix from its juice and mix with the sweet whipped cream and refrigerate for a couple of hours before serving.

Place in a pretty crystal or glass serving bowl and enjoy.. Any way you serve this, Florida Ambrosia is refreshing and DELICIOUS !!!!!!
