Mixed Berry Walnut Crisp

Feel free to use any mixture of your favorite berries for this fruity dessert. Make it extra decadent by serving it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
4 cups mixed berries (such as blueberries, blackberries and strawberries)
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons brown sugar, divided
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour, divided
1/4 cup cider
3/4 cup old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 teaspoon of mace
1/4 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons butter, chilled and cut into small cubes

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

In a medium bowl, combine fruit with 2 tablespoons brown sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and cider. Spoon into an 11-inch x 7-inch pan.

In a small bowl, combine the oats, walnuts, 1/4 cup brown sugar, remaining flour, mace and salt. Cut the cubes of butter into the mixture until thoroughly incorporated. Sprinkle the topping over the fruit.

Bake until fruit is hot and topping is golden, about 25 minutes.
