A DELICIOUS PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH RECIPE THAT IS VERY SIMPLE TO MAKE.
RECIPE INGREDIENTS
1  10" UNBAKED PIE CRUST FROM YOUR FAVORITE RECIPE
CAKE:
1 1/4  CUPS FLOUR
1    t BAKING POWDER
1/2  t SALT
3/4    CUPS SUGAR
1/4    CUP SHORTENING
1/2    CUP MILK
1    t VANILLA
1      EGG
3    T CHOPPED NUTS
SAUCE:
1/4    CUP BUTTER
1/2    CUP PACKED BROWN SUGAR
2    T LIGHT CORN SYRUP
DIRECTIONS
HEAT OVEN TO 350.


IN SAUCEPAN, PREPARE SAUCE. COOK AND STIR OVER LOW HEAT UNTIL MIXTURE COMES TO A BOIL. ADD 3 T WATER AND BRING TO BOIL AGAIN. REMOVE FROM HEAT AND ADD 1/2 t VANILLA.


HAVE CAKE INGREDIENTS AT ROOM TEMPERATURE. MIX FLOUR, BAKING POWDER, SALT, AND SUGAR IN BOWL. CUT IN SHORTENING. ADD MILK AND VANILLA. BEAT 2 MINUTES AT MEDIUM SPEED. ADD EGG AND BEAT ONE MINUTE. POUR BATTER INTO PASTRY LINED PIE PLATE. POUR LUKEWARM SAUCE GENTLY OVER BATTER. SPRINKLE WITH NUTS. BAKE FOR 55-60 MINUTES. SERVE WARM WITH WHIPPED TOPPING OR ICE CREAM.


(THE SAUCE WILL SINK TO THE CRUST FOR A LUCIOUS BUTTERSCOTCH LAYER)
